im looking at a great 21 1984 hallett,open bow,down fall is it has a volvo penta out drive and a factory volvo penta 350 chevy,600 original hours,boat is mint stored in doors whole life till recently original owner to,so i went and looked at cash in hand on wensday and guy has couple tie downs holding up the drive connected to the ski mount in back of the boat,so obviosly boat has a bad hydrolic or one that falls slowmel,,,? is they still make parts for this 84 volvo penta,,one ugly out drive to,wish the boaty was a jet for the year ..would of bougth it ,,guy would take 4k for it to ,but if they dont lake parts,i dont want to buy a new 5k drive for the boat..

Parts for those are not too difficult to come by.

There is a better than good chance that it does not have hydraulic trim (optional believe it or not) but rather the standard worm drive tilt motor (major downfall of the Penta).

The only reason I would talk you out of that boat is because of the transom cutout. NOTHING else will fit in that hole.

Mercruiser Alpha/Bravo drives, Volvo SX, Yamaha outdrives, OMC Cobra and some of the old Hardin marine drives all use the same transom cut out. Making a change a piece of cheese.

Hate to say it, but I would walk.

Don't buy it unless you can steal it for $2000 and pay for an upgrade.

A new 275 HP Mercruiser repower package will cost you in excess of $9000. You also have to replace the transom to do the swap. Figure another $2500 if you got a smoking deal. My math works out to over $13,000.
