Also another thing is my steering is very rough my boat goes side to side at very low speeds and im afraid that in havasu hitting someone should i replace the cable i have never replaced it before i have owned he boat for about 3 years now?

Check to see if it is a 'Jet-o-vator' or a 'Place Diverter', The cables are a lot different.
On your steering, Most jets 'wander' at low speeds (like hearding cattle), but a rough/tight cable compounds this problem. Time for new rack & cable?
I grew up on Silverwood, still looks the same

Ok thank you i believe its a jet o vator :0 ( is it hard to replace these cables ? i really don't want to pay that money considering i think it cant be that hard.

Well it gives me a workout at slow speeds when i tap the throttle its more predictable but should it turn smoothly? Also it is not bad at high speeds it feels fine i just dont want it to break out there in havasu. So if i could check pretty easily to make sure it needs to be replaced would be better. it has a rack and Pinyon! im going to spend about 1k on this trip so the least i can spend the better considering im only 19 lol But do you believe its necessary to replace how would i check?

Thank you very very very much man i appreciate this as im kinda stupid when it comes to these lol

i believe a place diverter uses a standard 4300bc teleflex cable.  just take yours out and measure it.

4300bc is a standard control cable but has a "bulkhead style threaded end" on one side.

if your steering cable is worn out, its sometimes cheaper to just buy a whole new kit including helm.

your original steering cable should have a number on it at the end, and usually the last 2 numbers indicate the length.  so like a 1000816 would be a 16 foot cable, etc.

i just bought a new set of control cables and steering kit from CP performance and i had it on my desk in 3 days.  great company.

Check that all of your steering connections are tight- steering tube in the transom adaptor, cable to steering tube, and steering cable to steering arm, but it may be shot. Mine is one finger lock-to-lock. (~7/8ths of a turn)
A slightly faster idle speed may help gain some control, my barge is at 900-1000 rpm, 600 r's wont hardly move it.
Place diverter cable is easy to replace, a Jet-O-Vator is a little more involved, but not difficult, depending on transom access.

Diverter/ jet-o-vator cable can be done at the river- Long story  :sly:  (real easy)
Steering replacement- 'bout an hour, not workin hard, or 20 minutes, in a hurry (If its rack already)
