Title: 1974 Glen Co with a 455 olds
Post by: Beaveretriever on May 04, 2008, 09:20:17 AM
I'm very new to jet boats, I'm a good wrench turner but I have a few questions about the jet. I just purchaced a 1974 Glen Co with a 455 Olds, and a Jacuzzi pump. I dont know the model or even where to look for the number. The boat needs a "Steering Cable". I dont know where to look or even the length that I would need the boat is 21'. Any help would be very helpful thank you

the best way to do it,I found out,on a boat that old...Don't replace just the cable...You can buy a new Rack and Pinion steering system,I believe,it comes with the cable. And when the cable goes bad it's a lot easier to get and to replace! ;D  ;) My suggestion...Contact Tom or  Josh at Jetboat Perfromance, those guy's will help ya!  ;D  :D

As stated here before by old rigger, the old mercury rack and pinon is a better rack.  I would just replace the cable if that is the rack that you have. As people I know have replaced their steering systems, I have collected 3 of the old mercury racks for future projects. Talk to Tom he'll set you up.

Actually skee, I sort of agree with you. If the rack is bad or you have a rotory steering, replace it with the rack in the box. I did that on my Advantage, it was the way to go, and I've been very happy with it. But if the old rack is fine I would just replace the cable.
