Ive researched most here and Ive decided to paint my jet and itll give me a chance to dig into the unknown for me. What silicone seals the bowl to the square Berkeley part? Then what silicone seals the square to the boat hull? If I unbolt the bowl does it seal with an oring or is that silicone also? Looks straight forward. Unbolt bowl the remove square part, all frkm inside. Since im going this far is there anything I should be looking for, that is a ware item?

remove the larger maybe 11/16 inch bolts for the bowl then smaller one 1/2 inch for the square. Oh is oil gonna fly out of anywhere?

There is a o-ring that seals the "square thing" transom adapter to the bowl. very little silicone is needed.And the same silicone is used for the hull. and NO there is no oily stuff gona squirt out. i used the RITE STUFF silicone prob a little over kill but i wanted to make sure it wasnt gona leak. some guys say use 3M or other silicone so that IF and WHEN you take it back apart it will be alot easyer. As far as ware items if your going to tare it all down you mite want to replace all the seals and the bowl bareings. oh and the bowl just has a gasket no silicone is needed.

Some berkeley transom adaptors had a gasket in between the hull and Transom Adaptor (T/A), and an o-ring 'tween the T/A and bowl. there might be 90 wt oil in the bowl, if it hasn't been converted to a grease zerk. it only is a few ounces if you are pulling the bowl. The original o-ring works great if it is still in good shape, but i've seen them tear when pulling the T/A from the bowl (I just did this >:( ). A lil grease on the o-ring works good when installing the T/A.

Most jets are this way, from what i've seen, but my dominator pump has an o-ring, and doesn't leak, so far (fingers crossed).
My berk has a leaky o-ring and silicon, doesn't leak now...

mine was caked on like tub and tile calking :screwy: then when i took it all apart i found the reason why ...the o-ring was cut in half!
but when i put it back together the o-ring sealed it . and i put very little silicon just for peace of mind .

Came out good. Thanks for everyone's help. Now to wait for the appliance paint to dry for a few days and I'll reassemble.

This ^^^ was the most brilliant idea I had ever heard! Makes any future teardown a snap! :thumbup:
But if it is an o-ring seal between the transom adaptor and the bowl, don't grease it, don't use Vaseline or any other petroleum based product. It'll eat that rubber alive. Use Silicone Lube (You can get small containers of it at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, larger tubes of it from any Pool Supply for about $7. If you have a pool, it's the same stuff you use on the pump basket cover ;) )
If it's just a bead of silicone, use a good marine silicone that comes in a caulking tube, not the Kitchen and Bath stuff........If the TA had a gasket to the hull, I wouldn't bother with a new one, Just silicone it on as well. Now the guitar string GT mentioned, before you Silicone bead around the bowl, wrap a Guitar string (round wound G string works best) around there, all the way around, and pull it through it's ball end at the top of the bowl, then stuff it up in there as far as you can, cinched tight. Then Silicone bead over it. If you ever have to remove the bowl or TA adaptor again, just yank on the guitar string, Silicone gone! ;) Can even remove the bowl without removing the TA most of the time!!

Can't believe I am admitting this on the internet, but when we do shaft seals on large pumps at work we use Astro Glide.... Bet you didn't know you can buy that chit in 20oz. bottles... It is literally glycerin and propylene glycol...
Mineral oil works bitchen too.... ;)

All finished. Put it all back together last night. Had to chase and clean all the threads and I used a mild locking compound on all the bolts. Its nothing special just a little work and it changed the look totally. For the lettering I just used a paint pen and matched it kind of to the boat, and yes appliance paint had great results.
