My boat currently has a 10" x 12" ride plate on it. The boat is very tail heavy, and has pretty poor holeshot, with a ton of bow rise. It also porposes pretty bad at all speeds. Any reason why I can't make a wider, and longer ride plate? I can easily fit a 12" wide, by 15" long plate on my pump. I have not calculated how many square inches increse this would be, but I know how much trim tabs can help out, and to me this would be about the same thing.

We build ride plates regularly as well as machine intakes and rig boats for both ,Your current ride is about right and not sure that bigger is better or would benefit your situation What exact boat? what power? what jet ? more info will help ! Tom

You keep saying the boat is "tail heavy", are you sure it's not "bow light"?
It sounds to me like you have a couple of problems.......
The first thing I would look at is the weight distribution in the boat. On most hulls, the CG should be at the harmonic balancer on a big block powered boat.
The second thing I would look at is the hull bottom, how straight is it? Hook? Rocker? This information will lead you to the setup. It almost sounds to me like you have some wedge or an upward nozzle angle that is effecting how the bot rides and launches...
Like Tom says, more information is needed to get an idea of what's going on..Have a picture? I hear they are worth a thousand words... :sly:

12" is an awefully short ride plate isn't it guys??? I recently got rid of my "home grown" 19" ride plate...and had a 24" piece made out of some channel. So far I am really liking the extra long ride plate.

The boat is a BAJA SPORT 200. It is a BBC, with a JE-A pump, with an A, or AA impeller---not sure. Boat has Berkeley electric jetovator. Just got motor back tonight, and it should be around 450 hp. Boat has a 27 gal gas tank all the way in the rear of the hull, with the front of the tank about even with the front of the motor. Seats are, couch across the back with buckets in front and closed bow. The bow section is very long, and leads me to consider the "BOW LIGHT" idea from one of the posts. Also, the hull is basicly a flat bottom, with very little "V" at any point. I have also lowered the rear of the ride plate while the motor was out, and have not had a chance to test it out due to lack of motor. This is my first JET BOAT, but I have been around boats my whole life, and know all about trim tabs, and hydrofoils on outboards and stern drives. It seems to me that on a "JET", the ride plate does the same thing as either one of these, so makeing it larger could only increase the effect.

To a point.....
What you have to realize is the ride plate does little to help on the launch...Reason; no forward movement when you hammer the gas...I would look to make sure the Jet-O-Vator is going full down, since this an E pump, there are a lot of areas this setup can be improved, but there are not too many "off the shelf" parts available for these...
A freebie would be to pull as much crap out of the back of the boat as possible and move it forward (or remove it all together)...
Do you know if the tank can be moved forward without much fuss? may be worth looking at.....
Another "given" is to check the boat for excess water...(maybe have it weighed). If there was a large amount of water in the boat, it will migrate to the rear of hull, especially on take off and with a big block....

Got to run the boat today. Ran perfect. May actually bring the ride plate back up a bit. Almost no porposing, even at low speed with diverter all the way up. Holeshot was pretty good, but that could be due to new motor, and fileing the impeller a little bit. Do not think I really need to make a larger ride plate at this point.
