Title: Berkeley Thrust Bearing Over Greased
Post by: king295 on May 22, 2017, 03:24:44 PM: Took a look through the inspection hole in front of the thrust bearing on my Berkeley jet and there appears to be quite a bit of grease visible....almost as if it has been over greased. Should I be concerned? If so, what is the easiest way to clean it up to make sure its not over greased?

Otherwise you will have to take it apart to clean it up.
Probably more important to make sure that it isn't under greased.

Post by: Flusher on May 24, 2017, 10:01:44 PM: Don't worry about overgreasing it. It's good to flush moisture out of the bearing after each trip. Yes, it makes a mess, but it's better than losing a thrust bearing, followed by an impeller, suction housing, and crankshaft.

Thank you! I'm just going to throw some tape over that hole for the first run and will reassess after that.
