I have to break in my cam and nearest water is 45 mins away. In order to remove pro engine comes out (not in the mood). Can I run it with water from two hoses and not have to install another wear ring or should I bite the bullet and head to pleasant and just put it in the water?

Thats exactly how I found out about the plastic wear ring in a WJ.
I broke in the cam on the trailer. A definite No No.
I have been on the river to break in a cam. 25 mins at 2000-2500 rpm up river was less than a quarter mile.
I static set the timing (10* before) and carb was untouched from before eng. rebuild, and got 'er wet.
Or pull it and drop the driveline.
Good luck.
