on my boat i have a water hose connection after my valve that comes from the jet.... disconect that, connect a water hose and let it rip.. remember to start the motor first before turning on the water... if the motor turns off and the water is on turn the boat back on fast or turn off the water... you dont want water getting into your heads.. bad news...also have your jet unscrewed from your motor.. the jet needs water because it doesnt it will burn up.... atleast thats what i have learned...
dont quote me... im speaking from how my jet boat is... but i think they are all the same in that department....

i start mine for a couple seconds everytime i pull it out of the water. i do it to get the water out of it. also if mine is hooked up to the hose, theres a ton of water that comes out of the pump. i am one of the crazy ones that will run it for tuning on the trailer, and i do not see how all the water coming out of the pump isnt keeping it lubed. everyone says disconnect it but i am a rebel.

yeah I'll let it run with the jet hooked up. I run it for 10 to 15 minutes at a time in the driveway.

some people get lucky, but eventually you will have to pay the thousand dollar price tag for being lazy ;)

I run it in my driveway before for a couple minutes with no problems, just had the hose hooked up after the pump to feed the motor. The times that I did plan to run it for 20 mins or so... I ran a hose to the motor and then another hose to the intake of the pump. That way you have water going into the pump also.

i took my boat to el cap on sunday and was hot rodin around and when i pulled ito the no wake zone a vibration started and i could feel it in the floor any ideas of wu it could be

I lost a wear ring (plastic? Jacuzzi WJ-12) breaking in a cam on a 454.............
Lessons learned
1. don't ever start the boat with the driveline to pump hooked up!!! (Thanks MPD)
2. use roller cams ;D
Can't imagine an aluminum impeller to stainless wear ring galling!!!
stainless imp on ss wear ring........EEEK!!!!!! :screwy:

Therein lies your answer. I've been daft enough to do just that thinking another hose up the nozzle would protect things. Moo's wear ring is telling me a little different story. Not shot, but the bowl change is now necessitating a lot more.........
With 4 pt mounts, not to hard to disconnect the drive line, 3 point, well, enignes gotta come out to do it..... :banghead:

Not recommended ;)

I don't see the few second "make sure shit works" start being the problem.
The problem is when they run out of the water there is nothing putting forward thrust on the "angular contact" thrust bearing and the shaft has more radial play than if loaded in the water..
Also the packing seal survives from water keeping things lubricated.....It takes about 20 minutes to pull my D.L. to run for extended periods, I also live less than five minutes from the lake and can run it on the launch ramp for the Ranger fee of a Quiznoes sub... 8)
