Title: Crazy pump more pics / cracks
Post by: 2Bing-guy on June 04, 2008, 06:58:37 PM
Hey appologies in advance for being a board hog on these, having some compression/pic issues so I have to multi post.  Anyway have a look at these pics of the inlet area of this rig,  Glass cracks seem to be the filler/scab area that was redone after the setback. Not sure how "structural" they are.  Im gussing these bassette headers use a low water inj and run fairly hot given the heat wrap near the head tubes?  Their small od would tell me they are not waterjacketed, is that right?  Any thoughts on impeller finish and shaft scratches.  Anything you guys want to chime in with plesase do. I have many engine pump pics but dont want to go nuts.  Kinda interested in buying this thing as the rest of the rig is super straight,  just the mill pump thing looks iffy.

Transom area inside, is the engine pump connection housing able to take the thrust load mostly alone? Or shouldnt there be a pump to transom strut on here like Ive seen on other high end jet setups?  Seems like just the glassed in pump suction housing would be at a bad angle to the the stresses of the whole works without some extra bracing to the transom??

OK last one I promise, just a shot of these shaky lookin bassets headers.  Do many guys run these, are they sorta outdated?  In a enclosed engine area they seem like bad idea, Im guessing they got to be made of some crap 409 ss or similar to be rusting like that, seems like water inj rate etc would have to watched pretty close to keep them from feeding back into head. Why the heck wouldnt a guy just run a jacketed header and avoid the problems?  Am I a retard?

That whole pump deal would scare me off. The pump is attached to the keel of the boat, the transom has nothing to do with securing it. I believe those headers are supposed to used on exposed motors only.

Im a header guy by trade and it didnt look right to me, but what the L do I know...  I guess I can build a set of jacketed headers, had already thought about it for something overkill to do, still, pump mount cracks etc,    experts??

I'd pass on the length of the ride plate alone . That thing is goin to have a bunch of hook in it when you get cruisin . Believe me when I say "keep lookin" . You'll find something just as turn key that is at least done correctly and maybe just needs a little elbow grease .

No I didnt, but Im still thinking about going up there are seeing how it runs out. But you know how that goes, next thing ya know your hookin it up to the truck.  Maybe ILll give the guy a low number and see, its kinda a pisser because the rest of the boat is so nice.  Also several nice BB IO's around here but Im resisting....
