Title: Did I screw myself?
Post by: FordLover on February 25, 2016, 07:17:48 AM
The past two years I have been scraping together this new engine(after blowing the last one up). Funkin dying to get back on the water this summer. Like wont stop talkin about with anyone within ear shot of me. I have taken every marine engine precaution that I was recommended or read about. Lets say I am in the 600ish range? Now I cant confirm that, but lets just say 6ish for the sake of argument. Wasn't even thinking of the impeller in my pump. JC aluminum a cut. So did I screw myself?  What can go wrong? Anyone else done it and been ok? Thanks for the info/help!

And I am literally a couple weeks away from dumping it back in the boat.

Cavitating the pump under power at high rpm is what will "kill it".

Just to be the Devils advocate,  you determine the horsepower with your right foot.

Short blasts shouldn't tear it up for quite a while.

I 2nd GT's info.

I've learned an aluminum impeller will take the HP just fine. But once you jump out of the water on the throttle you may end up missing some vanes. That will be your next opportunity to upgrade to a stainless besides now 😆.

BTW, you've got another Ford fan here; the rare and few.

Do you have a loader?

If i flat foot it from idle i blow my pump out everytime. Ask 69kona he heard it hit the rev limiter HARD from idle one time.

But if im moving and the pump is loaded, it holds back fine. Im guessing im in the 600-650 range on the bottle. And it doesnt seem to cavitate. When i hit the button and im at WOT it goes from 5k to 6k about instantly and sits there.

Just dont come unhooked and then load it again really hard. That'll break some ish

So there is still hope!

No loader.

Yes Fords are super badass.

Thanks for the info and caution.

What will the loader do for me? And about how much they run? Yours did you good?

It'll force and direct water to the impeller.  Essentially force feeding it.

I think there's one on here by boost for sale

Mine seems to do well never ran it without it,  but I don't cavitate when I'm on plane. Only from a dig.

Never had an issue with the last engine. The setup never gave me issues either. Ill run the new power plant to get my baseline and see what needs changed. 🙏And pray I dont blow up my impeller. Thanks!

someone like Flusher or GT needs to step in here

I dont know enough about the different styles of loaders to know what would work for you/your hull

Those loaders are interesting.  I want to say GTH made those and they were later copied.

But yes, that's a shoe with a loader.

Look up a loader called the Super Sport. Best all around performance.

The sell for between $250 and $300.

Use black oxide hardware through bolted all the way through the intake. Check it often for cracks and looseness.
