I am looking into making & installing a down pedal my boat. Does anyone have pictures or could someone describe the function of the mechanism. I am assuming that these are pretty rare and that I will be making everything.
Am I understanding correctly that the pedal works in conjunction with the manual diverter control lever? I am trying to avoid reinventing the wheel.

I used a Trimetric with an override. It came out of a DiMarco day cruiser.
I won't be near the boat for a couple weeks.
Busier than a cat covering crap with sawdust in a hurricane.

Here is what I am envisioning: a pedal that actuates a slider mechanism acting on either the handle mechanism or the cable sleeve of a manual Place Diverter control. This pedal would act only on the diverter.
At the moment, I am not considering trim plates. The boat rides really nice and I think the addition of trim plates would add unnecessary weight, drag, and complexity.

The way I did it was to use a tube that houses the end of the outer cable with a 100# return spring on it the moves the cable jacket about 1-1/2".
Then the Trimetric handle determines the at rest adjustment.
It took some screwing around to get it to work.
On the Demarco, the pedal pulled the rod through the manual lever, now it just pushes the cable jacket. The rest works pretty normally.
One thing I do need to do is decrease the amount of ratio on the pedal, this may require a much stiffer spring. You want a lot of resistance in the pedal, otherwise it could bounce like crazy in rough water.
Originally I wanted to do a hydraulic override, but these parts literally fell into my lap.
Being the recycler that I am, I used it.
