Title: Ever seen one this bad?
Post by: mr45revolver on January 22, 2018, 03:03:34 PM
So I started my pump rebuild project today and I thought some of you may get a kick out of this. I just bought the boat and was trying to figure out why it was so slow. I think I figured it out... Pics below are of my impeller hahaha!

Wow, that’s impressive. I particularly like the pipe wrench marks on the nut also. Beautiful

look for a letter stamped on it. Maybe a *b* cut? Hows the bowl? Danl

The bowl looks fine. The impeller is stamped with "A" but I was told it was likely cut down to a "B" or "C" cut. It's powered by a volvo 4.3 litre so not a ton of power for a big impeller cut. Boat accelerates like a snail so I am hoping a new impeller and pump rebuild will help.

Probably a "B/C" Cut, or even a "C" cut.

your 4.3, is it a 190 hp or 225 hp?

190 hp and a B/C would be ~4100 rpm, and a 225 hp would be ~4300. (not likely)
190 hp and a C cut would be ~4200 rpm, and 225 hp would be ~4400. (most likely)

And yes, there is even a "D" cut, at least Berkeley lists specs for one, possibly another 200 rpm increase.

Turbo it with a 7.3 powerstroke turbo and have 400+ hp at the crank, Roadkill style.

Tom at Jet Boat Performance would know what it came with.

It's actually a 4.3 gs which I think has 205 hp. Boat cruises at 4200 rpm(about 3/4 throttle) and goes 27 mph(gps) at that rpm assuming the tach is correct. I also had 800 lbs of passengers, half tank of gas and we were headed up river. I'm hoping the rebuild will translate into some better performance.

Update: today I made quick work out of the impeller nut and impeller. Impeller nut came off with the help of an impact wrench and the impeller came off with just my hands and elbow grease.
