Ok I have a question....Does anyone here know why they run those extra long snoots on those tin race boats? What advantages do they have? Here is a pic

i dont know, but my guess would be for those rough white waters to keep the thrust in the water.

Thats what those boats like and makes them run 110 plus.I dont use one on mine there really only good for top end.

That picture is of a turbine powered (read: 1480 HP) 140 MPH river jet, the reason the snoot is so long is two fold.
1. If you look at the shape, it tapers down ever so smooth and gradual making it extremely efficiant for nozzle exit velocity while still allowing a lowering of the propulsion point.
2. If you have ever tried to turn a jet boat at anything over about 75-80 MPH without a rudder you would soon find out that turning with the nozzle close to the transom just changes the attitude of the hull (lists to one side) but does not actually turn. since these Wacko's :screwy: only run in 6-8" of water at well over 100 MPH, a rudder would prove dangerous. these crazy nozzles and snoots work very well.
BTW notice the roost control is only on the top? Strictly handling not flair.. 8)
