Replace Morse cable and use my command 200 helm?

Working in Pomona today, so gonna head down to Rex and get me a new cable. He's got both; 18' Teleflex cable and rack to work with my existing helm, bolt on, 15 minute replacement.

He's also got the Teleflex "the rack" complete system at a few bucks less...

Am I better off using my Morse helm since it isn't damaged or worn, or is the new system better and worth another 45-1hr install time?

If anyone has any experience with the new system lemme know.

I've heard the old Morse helm is better if its still good. I was just gonna open the box and look at parts and guess which is better.

i got the whole kit when i did mine... honestly... i think its impossible for the helms to wear out. it felt exactly the same as the helm that came with the boat that was probably 10 years old or more. unless yours is literally falling apart. i remember my dads morse helm had a little screw that would tighten up the wheel so it wasnt so easy to turn. mine doesnt have that. its almost "too smooth"

Well, the helm and cable kit costs less than just the new cable and rack. As long as it ain't a big deal for retrofitting, I'll grab the new one.

Mike at rex explained that keeping my existing helm that's in good shape is the better way to go. I was asking him about stainless cables and ways to keep my new one new and he produced this trick little seal from the back of the shop.

$27? Sure, why not.

Threads onto the tube and hugs the stainless shaft. Just a little waterproof grease and, in theory, keep water out.

thats a pretty neet seal thingy. just last night i pulled my steering cable for something else and it was stuck to the fitting that goes into my jet plate. that little sealed fitting would work awesome at wicking the water off the shaft before it goes into the tube. do you have a part # or anyhting for it?
