is this impeller trash?
« on: May 22, 2012, 03:13:05 PM »
Last fall my boat was cavitating badly, I would have to baby the throttle to get it up on step to keep it from cavitating. If I punched it, it would sit and spin out. My dealer told me to replace the impeller, and the wear ring so I bought them and a puller. I just pulled it off, what do you guys think, can I clean it up and keep it as a spare? My boat came with a A impeller so I bought a AA thinking I might get a little better mpg when I am running a little heavy. My boats an aluminum weldcraft.

She has definitely passed some abrasive materials a time or two, but I see no reason you could not cut down and true the wear ring area and get a new wear ring to fit it..

After some attention to the edges and a simple clean up and rebalanced it should be usable...

The question is...Why? They really don't cost a lot and its not like swapping it out is "easy to necessitate having a spare....

By the time you're done with the work, unless you do it all yourself, you'll be in t what a new one cost...JMHO

What model Weldcraft?
