Question, can I use the red grease that is used to grease the jet pump for axle grease ? For some strange reason my grease gun for the trailer axle, with a new cartridge, will not pump grease into the buddy bearings. I thought I would try my other grease gun used for the jet pump. My mechanics grease gun worked just fine.

just for my piece of mind .. the red grease goes where ?? i have some of the lucas red n tacky that i read i should put into my berkley 12 jc bowl but have not.. but then i have also read that i should just put 90 wt in it.. i am not sure about your question but maybe you can help me with mine :banghead:

Be careful mixing greases..
To get the "bad" grease gun to work simply put it upside down and thump it a few times on the ground, if concrete use a block of wood...
BTW "RED" don't mean squat. It is just dye... ;)

Exactly, save for the lithium variety. Berk states whatever 90W in the bowl, and on those I've stuck with Lucas. Out of the 7 or so jet boats that have passed through my hands, 2 were set up with zerks for grease. Moo being one. In those bowls, I used Pennzoil 302 Multi pupose stuff. Only reason, noone knew what SHOULD be in there, and it's what pops used religiously on the backhoes, trackhoes, trenchers, etc. But on wheel bearings, or anything else high speed, dad always used Pennzoil 707 (Pricey, same "red" color you're talking about, but that means nothing, really). Always had cases of both on a job site and 2 grease guns. ;)
Second, replace the zerk fittings in your bearing buddies. Probably just those.

Try and push in the small bearing on the zerk...might be stuck or replace the zerk. I use red on trailer, thrust and bowl.

19ftspectra, use 90 weight gear oil (or 80-90 OK to mix) in your jet bowl. Obvious - remove both screws and fill one side until the oil comes out the other side. For the grease check with your local boat store to get the right grease for the jet pump, there is a zerk fitting on top and to the rear of your packing gland , pump the grease until if feels a little hard to pump or you see it coming out of the packing gland bottom area by the long bolts used to tighten the packing gland.

river fred buy your name i would think you drag your boat all the way to the river but being from sante mon .. do you run it closer to home at all ?

19 FT Spectra: To answer your question I store my boat in Needles just two minutes from the river and I normally go twice per month during the summer from April to Oct. Years ago I towed my 19 ft Rogers to the river, pain in the ass. 99% of the time I play on the river, not really into the local lakes like Castaic, Pyramid or Cachuma.
