Title: help removing berkley pump
Post by: Bobbyblank on March 10, 2008, 06:35:23 PM
Hey all. I have never removed a pump out from my boat and since the motor is out for a rebuild, i was thinking now is the time. The pump is fine and has pretty new PC on it, but there is a leak somewhere and i figured now is the time to find it. I think its comeing from where the bowl through the transom adapter plate. There is a small bead of silicone around the bowl and you can see a few gaps. Even if this isnt the leak, i would like to take it out anyway so i can clean out the bilge and clean the intake of the pump. My question is what gaskets will i need to purchase and what needs to be re-siliconed after reinstallation. Also, What goes into removing the loader grate?

Bobby,  Here is what I printed out and followed to rebuild my pump.  http://www.americanturbine.com/downloads/pdf/oh_manuals/berk_oh_manual.pdf

Step by step.  I did go to http://www.berkeleyjet.com to buy my parts and the 2 tools that are used to remove the impeller.  http://www.berkeleyjet.com/tools.aspx    You'll need a press to change out the bushings.  Buy a complete kit, it'll save you money.

Greg, im not trying to rebuild the pump, just wondering what is involved in removal of the entire pump from the hull. With that said, HOLY COW!! THANKS A TON for the other links. I printed out all the pages and put them in a folder with all my other paperwork on my boat. When the time comes to rebuild it (will be doing it myself for sure), i will have all the documents for reference. Those were great step by step instructions. Thanks again!

Tom, Thanks for the offer. I will be calling you soon with a question about the how to seal the intake to the hull. Thanks again. I am very glad i surfed across this site.

Hi Bobby,

You have definitely come to the right place. We also have videos here on our website (http://www.cpperformance.com/TechTips/Berkeley-Rebuild/default.htm?mtc=4) that break down step-by-step on how to remove the pump from the boat.

Good Luck!
Brad
