Title: How tight?

Just picked up a Berkeley pump and when I spin it by hand  it feels tight.its not locked up but it doesn't spin super free either.

Well, if the packing is snugged up and drier than a popcorn fart in July, yeah, they can be pretty darn tight...

Loosen the packing land bolts and spray some WD-40 on the shaft and try it again. Should turn with minimal torque (20-50 inch-pounds).
