Right now I have my Hyd PD up/down toggle switch mounted to the dash on the left side of my steering. I had heard/seen of a switch mounted to the steering wheel. To me it sounds the way to go. Any probs with the cord tangling/twisting or any other probs? Then if all is ok, where to get one? Mark

www.jetboatperformance.com or Place Diverter. I have the steering wheel control but mounted it next to the forward/reverse handle so I wouldnt have to worry about the cord getting tangled. Works great for me.

I mounted mine on my steering wheel , only neg is when your turning up is down and the switch is on the other side of the steering wheel .

They wrap pretty flawlessly around the steering when turning. I personally would prefer it on the dash or a manual on the floor for the reason mentioned by Jimbo. Of the two friends that have theirs on the steering wheel.... I haven't heard any complaints about the cord getting tangled.

Thanks for the input guys. Still not exactly sure if I want to change the way I have it now. The way I was thinkin, it would be a BIG difference on the ease of use. But with the different opinions hmmmm :screwy: thats what I get for thinkin lol mark

I don't think you could ever get the cord tangled as the wheel doesn't go all the way around much, certainly not 5 or 6 times like a car. Sometimes it is hard to remember which button is up/down when the whole switch is upside down and the lettering is worn off too.

using cord on steering wheel with no problems always know which way is up and down by what side the switch is on and the position of the cord coming out of the switch

I liked my old one on the dash, thought it was inconvenient until I drove my friends with the control on the steering wheel. Although the steering wheel mount is nice in really rough water.

It's what I'm thinking about replacing my old shifter with. It would be in a very accessible location. I think you have to add diodes but Radio Shack has those and just solder in line and heat shrink tubing.

I've got a Radio Shack toggle switch on the steering wheel with the curly cord. :sly: No problems with the cord getting tangled.

Move the switch to the side in front of the shifter. Just sit in the boat, let your arm rest on the gunwale where it normally does when you drive, and mount the switch right where your finger tips end up. Its handy and out of the way too. I don't like the wheel mount because if the wind is from the side, you have to steer into it and the button is not where it usually is. With it on the side, its allways in the same place, much cheaper than the curly cord thing too. TIMINATOR

I'll do something with it. Either use the toggle switch and mount it near the shifter or get that shifter I liked to and have it all contained in the shift lever.

here's an example. The shifter is dropped all the way down to keep it out of the way. "Normal" position moves from 10 o'clock to 2 (this gets it completely out of the way for longer cruises)

NICE Wheel Greg !! ;D Curly cords work fine ,never had any problems ,so do the switches Place provides I tend to recommend the standard switch mounted like Timm said. In Bigger boats where fast reaction isnt an issue. The steering wheel controls are nice in fast hotrods, 1/4 milers etc

I got mine at Place. Though now I'm debating if I am going to mount it on the wheel. I'm thinking the dash would be better.

What did ya pay? The more I think about it I am really likin the idea of it being on the wheel. Being that I do the quick racing thing with my buddies, the rough water sometimes that we hit, and the yahoos on the river that I sometimes encounter, I like the idea that I can keep BOTH hands on the steering wheel ;D Mark

It was a bundled deal from place, so I couldn't tell you exactly how much for the switch itself.

i got mine from Dana Marine Products. bolts to my Moma Dino wheel. Renegade boats/ Harmin Marine in Aneheim has a hub adaptor made for the switch, with a hole machined into it for the wire to run into your column. no tangling, no wire to look at.

Guess I'll put my used one up and see what it brings. I need to start getting a lot of the parts I replaced, together and see if I can make back a fraction of what I've spent.

Hey Josh the switch worked great. Only prob was figuring a way to mount it to the steering. wasnt hard tho. Hooked the green wire form the diverter to the green on the switch and up was up and down down. One question tho why the power wire not to the ignition. thats where I had it hooked to previously and worked fine. On the hot side of the ignition switch

I don't run them to the switched ignition wire because it is a fairy small wire and the pump can draw a big load in some cases. Run it to the large 12 volt constant lead (which for the sake of argument is on the back of the ignition switch) .

Yes Josh that is where I had it hooked up, on the key switch to the always hot side. I like the way it feels tho, kinda under my thumb ;D ;D thanks again for hooking me up Josh!! Mark
