Guys, I have a hydraulic diverter for my boat. The electric motor that drives the (Bennett) hydraulic pump is not working (stuck). The cost of a replacement unit is out of my budget range. I have been told by many that the only solution is replacement.
I don't believe this.
Who has disassembled one? Does anyone know what motor to use as a replacement? Does anyone have a diagram of a disassembled Bennett pump?
Yes I already tried thumping on the motor while putting power to it.

When you "thump" the motor does it sounds as if it wants to operate? I have never torn one down but I have a lot of experiance with hydraulic motors and pumps, if it were the motor itself there may possibly be a weak connection to the commutator or brushes. The pump itself could be locked up internally which would probably mean replacement since I don't know of any rebuild kits around unless the manufacturer sells one. Can you post a pic of what pump assembly you have and maybe I can help you break it down.

The pump hasn't been used in 6-7 years minimum. I'm guessing the motor is locked up due to corrosion, but I am no expert.
Mine is very similar to this one, mine is just an older version.

If you think the motor is locked you may be able to remove the motor cap which would probably be on the opposite end of the assembly(opposite of the hoses). There may be a couple hex or philip screws going through the body holding the cap on, just be sure to place a mark on the cap before you seperate the two pieces so it goes back the same way. This should give you access to the motor internals and maybe try to spin the armature manually or inspect the brushes for a good connection. Hope this helps any.

Here's a good price for one.

You're way better off just replacing the unit over rebuilding it. You never know how long it's got before something else breaks.

Lemme dig around tonight Jon. I have quite a few of them around from/for the Shrimpin boat (uses 5 of them). I think I remember one has a cracked reservoir tank. Might be able to make 1 good one from yours and this one (I have a replacement for that one coming from Riverdad........someday.......)....... :sly:
