Hydraulic vs Manuel place diverter
« on: September 07, 2016, 02:49:38 AM »
I'm looking for opinions of the two types of controls. I've had 3 boats with manual diverters. The new hull I purchased has a hydraulic which is currently not working. With cost of a new pump and misc. Items, I can just change over to a manual control.

Correct me if I'm wrong , the hydraulic unit has an infinite amount of control to the nozzle whereas the manual has a set amount of nozzle control because of the notches at the handle. That plus a person has to have "Gorilla" arms to change the manual settings under load will have me changing 2 hydraulic unit. That seems pretty basic to me. But the extra cost and concern over the plumbing and reliability I've got me concerned.

Mines not hard to change under load at all and its manual.

you are right about the notches though

I like my manual operation . Dont have a problem when under full load. I mounted mine on my seat and is very accessible and keeps my hand somewhat close to steering wheel.

Well looks like I'm going back to manual. Found a new floor mount handle on Facebook for $125 including  cable. I was hoping for some more information on the pros of a hydraulic control. Will have to go with what I know for now. For me i can just look at the handle and know what position the diverter is in. Also resting my hand on it reminds me of driving a stick shift hot rod. Loud big block and with more driver feed back has a high fun factor. Thanks guys for your input.

One less component to break with the manual.

The hydrolic is way better u get a quicker response when u actually need to trim the boat in chop and it gets a lot more negative and positive angels then my manual ever did I will never go back to manual the hydrolics made life that much more care free on ur boat just sayin

My manual hits the stops on both ends I can't see how a hydraulic would get any more angle unless the stops have been modified

I think he was referring to amount of positions (notches) you are limited to with a manual. The nozzle sweat spot might be in between one of the notches depending on weight in the boat, water conditions etc at that particular time.

Not yet. But haven't lost anything.

I had it wedged down the only time o actually gpsd it and ran the same as usual. When I reviewed the video it needed a lot more up nozzle.

I pulled the wedges out and will try it that way. I'm betting that's going to be about right.

Definitely a different monster out the hole though

Yes it was shot with a potato

This video was before I took the wedges out from the stock nozzle. The droop was wedged 4* up in this video

I gpsd it with the droop wedged 3* down. No improvement

Manual is more hot rod...easy small cable adjustments to get the sweet spot if in between notches.  If you plan on over 100 or racing than maybe an air set up.
