I pulled the pump on my Advantage to have the trust bearing and rope packings replaced. I don't know how long it's been since the pump has been gone through and I really didn't want to risk the trust bearing giving up on me. So far, everything looks to be in great shape. I'm considering putting an inducer in it. The pump is set back with a loader, shoe, and ride plate. It had a droop and old style diverter, but I sold those and will be upgrading to a new style diverter and HPH nozzle adapter. I assume the inducer would be best upgrade while everything is apart. I'd like to hear opinions. It's a 20' open bow.. I'm not trying to race anyone, but we are going to be skiing behind it. I'd like to get the most out of the boat.

Below are pics of the disassembled pump. It looks like the bowl had a stuffer in it at some point. Maybe throwing one back in couldn't hurt? Especially since it can be done on the cheap.

I would think an inducer should help out of the hole.

I'm wondering if some detail work on the backside of those vanes would help a 20' cruiser or not?

Stuffer is probably a little overkill.  Inducer would make a noticeable difference out of the hole.
The wear ring clearance is of upmost importance.

A little clean up and shaping never hurt anything.

At your performance level, an inducer should help everywhere, but mostly out of the hole.  Best to machine the shaft while it is apart.

Did you have a porpoise with the full-droop?  I'm curious how it will perform with the HPH over the full-droop.  The HPH is really a nice part, but if you have the power to take advantage of of the full-droop, you might see a speed difference.

Did you get to ski behind it already?  I wonder if you will see a difference in the quality of the wake.

Detailing the front of the impeller would also really help on the hit, followed by detailing the bowl.

Stuffer wouldn't hurt, but if you are on a tight budget, do that last.

The only things you can't do without total disassembly are the shaft, thrust bearing, and inducer.  And double drilling the suction if you feel you really need it.  Everything else can be done after installation.

I appreciate the response.

With the full droop it porpoised pretty bad at cruising speed. I feel like it gave the boat too much lift. I would also have to keep the trim as far down as it would go to keep from porpoising. As far as power, I think I'm in the 400-450 hp range based on the Berk impeller chart. I'm getting 5200rpm on an "A" impeller. The majority of the other Rogers/Advantage Bonneville Classics I've seen have droops on them, but I know every boat (even the same hull) is different.

I haven't had a chance to ski behind it yet. I need to get Lauren behind the wheel more.

That's the "big" A impeller.  The trailing edges are cut at a 30* angle instead of 33* relative to the shaft.  You can tell because the blades end at the large diameter of the hub.
