Dang... I need to quit reading the instructions. On the bottom of page 7 of the manual I'm reading it says heat the wear ring until the liner starts to melt. I just didn't expect the liner to be that friggin big. I wasn't sure if you were supposed to reuse them or not either. This whole jet rebuild deal is making me :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Wish me luck on my homemade press(shaft in freezer all night, bearing and slinger in oven) this mornings portion of fun. :screwy:

FWIW, I have been using a 1750 watt paint stripping heat gun on jetpumps for years. I heat the pump housing with a heat gun until it reaches about 230*F (use an infrared thermometer) and simply knock the wear ring out with a modified brass drift punch. Also use the heat gun to heat the bearing to about 350*, it heats uniformly in under a minute and you don't have to freeze the shaft...I like your method though, should work killer. :thumbup:
I also have a flat aluminum plate the size of the wear ring and a 3/4" threaded rod to use as a press for the wear ring, the rod goes all the way through the suction piece with a flat piece of stock on the seal end...Another cheat is to put the filler strip in a bowl of water in the microwave until the water boils, softens it up and makes things go easier...
I have done an impeller, wear ring, new bearings and seals in under an hour...Hungover on a Sunday morning by the way. :sly:

Amazingly the slinger and bearing fell right on the shaft.....I hope there is no right and wrong way for the bearing to go on, as far as a front and a backside. That was so easy, I'm pretty sure I'll have to do that twice too....I was hoping to get this turd together today, but it looks like a new bowl is in my future.

Some bearings are thrust sensitive due to the way they are constructed. Typically if the small crescent moon shaped cutout fot the ball bearing install is on the outer race, it would go toward the impeller, if the crescent shape is on the inside race, it goes toward the engine, I hope that at least made a little sense...
What bowl do you have have? And what's wrong with it?.....Just curious. ;)

Oddly enough both my outer race and inner have little 1/4 moons but they're both on the same side of the bearing. The moon on the outer race is the bigger of the 2. They ended up on the shaft facing the impeller.....lord I hope that's right. I have a split bowl berk, yesterday I show up right as the machineist presses out what I thought was my old bushing, it was 1 piece copper looking deal about 3" long. Had some holes in it that lined up with the grease holes. I'm thinking hmm that's weird the new bushings are in 2 pieces with a split in them. Come home ...go to put the new bushings in ... not, they fall right through. After talking with Tom it sounds like my bowl at some point had been repaired. I'm not sure if my machinest has taken his trash out, I can't decide weather to try to put that sleve/bushing back in (if I can find it), or look for a used or maybe new bowl..

As far as the bearing, you are GTG, as far as the bowl, I see three options, one would be to have a machinist make a sleeves out of billit aluminum and install the bearings in normally, or have a custom bearing made by a bearing house, I would actually try to get a bearing that is close and just needs to be modified to fit, or even have the bowl modified to fit the bearing....Doable either way....These guys have made strut bearings for me and have an unbelievable inventory, I don't know if they do retail, but typically can have stuff in my hand in a day or two... :thumbup:
Measure your pumpshaft outside diameter at the largest bearing surface point and add .004" then measure the inside diameter of the bowl and add .0015" and order a manganese bearing.... :sly:

Kreg, your bowl can be repaired. Just needs a new repair sleeve that accepts standard bushings. Had mine done by Jack @ MPD. Think the turnaround was about a week.

Thanks for the advice all. My veins are pretty ate up, I'm leaning tword a new dominator bowl... I wonder if the bowl I have is even a berk...can anyone tell me how to tell a berk bowl from a dominator....
