Title: Jacuzzi pump newbie questions
Post by: Kyle700 on May 16, 2012, 09:41:52 PM
I have a 76 Cobra Jet trihull with a chevy 350. Now the pump, does it hold gear oil like a Berk? I don't see any fill plugs, just a zerk on one side where the shaft goes into the pump unit. And on the top of the unit, there is a round cover, 6" diameter (about) that is held on by two bolts, one on each side. After removing the two bolts, the cover does not want to come off easily, should it? Also, what is inside the cover?

Thanks.

Also, how can I tell if it is a WJ or YJ?

Thanks

Nope no gear oil, just grease on these. A wj has a zerk dead nuts right on top of the bowl (on the outside of the boat) and has 4 bolts that hold the nozzle on. A yj does not have those 4 bolts, it is one piece from bowl to nozzle. And the cover your talking about is the handhole cover. Be careful with it being stuck on there that you don't tear the gasket. Inside of it is your impeller and shaft. Also there should be a little metal tag attached to the pump on the inside of the boat that will tell you exactly which jacuzzi you have. Post some pics too.
