ARE THE RUMORS TRUE ABOUT JACUZZI PUMPS LIMITING OR WASTING HORSEPOWER VS BERKS OR OTHER PUMPS?
Although they (Jacuzzis) don't have some of the after market readily available hardware and mods available to them that some of the other "Berkeley" type jets do, the Jacuzzis are very good performing jets and respond well to simple inexpensive internal mods , If there is a down side it would be the YJ jet which does not take well to added horse power (much north of 300) Jacuzzies came OEM in dozens of manufacturers boats back in the day including but not limited to Hondos Tom

GUESS I SHOULD FIND OUT WHAT MODEL I HAVE, AND GO FROM THERE? IT WORKS, I JUST FEEL ITS LIMITED? I AM NEW TO THIS AFTER ALL ???
-
its really easy to tell which jacuzzi you have... when you look at the pump(outside of transome) there will be 4 bolts hooking up to the bowl... that is a wj.. and the one that have no bolts is the yj..
i hve the wj and can say that i am pleased with it.. although i never really had any berkleys... on my ford 390 i go about 50-55 on flat water.. and im in the process of adding a jet-o-vator.. i heard they help alot..
if you got any questions ask.. everyone knows alot of crap... O0
-
OK, I WILL CHECK IN THE AM. I'VE JUST HEARD NEGATIVE STUFF ABOUT THEM SO I THOUGHT I WOULD ASK THE GURUS. WORKS FINE FER ME. THE ONLY THING I HAVE NOTICED IS GREASE COMING OUT OF THE PART OF THE PUMP THAT MOUNTS TOGETHER WHERE THE U JOINTS ARE. IT SEEPS OUT FROM THE BOLTS THAT HOLD IT TOGETHER.
-
ya i get that too alittle.. but i dont see any probs with mine.. it runs good...
-
YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT CAUSES THAT SEEPAGE?
-
The Bearing cavity on all these jets need only to be about 2/3 full to operates correctly , most everyone wants to give a shot or two with regualrity eventually the bearing cavity becomes overfull and the grease weeps out of every crack and crevice , overgreasing will also shorten bearing life too Tom

MAKES SENSE. THANKS. I HAVE ONLY PUT A COUPLE SHOTS IN EACH ZIRC ONCE AND BEEN OUT A GOOD HAND FULL OF TIMES. ALL I HAVE ON MY PUMP IS 2 ZIRCS, NO OTHER PORTS FOR LIQUIDS. I'VE HEARD ITS WATER COOLED? I'M NOT SURE THE BEST WAY TO KEEP UP ON THIS?

please turn your caps lock OFF
thank you

You're gonna be fine with the Jacuzzi WJ. I have one. Several Berks as well that I prefer, but it performs VERY well, kindof impressed with it, really. Friend of mine just bought a Hondo with the AT energizer kit that works well also.
Don't let the horror stories from us bench racers get to ya. The cost vs the benefit of changing to a Berk, and THEN building the Berk to run like the wind? not worth it. Throw less money at the Jacuzzi and it'll perform.

THANKS RAY. LIKE I SAID, IT WORKS GOOD FOR ME....JUST WANTED TO HEAR THE OPINIONS FROM ALL OF YOU VETS. RALPH BRUNT, WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO TURN CAPS OFF?

first and foremost forum etiquette, when you use your caps it appears that you are yelling
so once again please turn off the caps
thank you
-
DEF. NOT YELLING. BUT I CAN RESPECT THAT. From here on out my brother, caps are off.....unless I have to yell ;D Thank's for the lesson in etiquette... Do you have any lessons in keeping the motor in the float alive through the down time?

thanks german1 ;)
here in long beach there is no down time, i guess it would depend on where you live and how cold it gets

here is a good thread on winterizing

O.k. i'll check out that thread. I'm down here in sunny San Dago. I'll just have it sitting fer a while....outta work fer the time being, then gonna play catch up. So probably a couple months unless something comes up. I just don't want to compromise things......ya kno?

So I guess the pump is a wj....it has the 4 bolts that mount to the bowl.

for what it's worth ::) i had a w/j fresh from cyclone speed and marine in a hondo and my 460 turned the impeller 51-5200 rpm. i took the motor out and put it in my liberty with a fresh berk from cylcone and it turned the exact same rpm. mph is really irrelivent because the hondo was a turd.
just my experience

Right on Ralph. My boat only turns 41-4200 rpms. It has roller rockers and a cam in there, but my buddy lupo smoked me when we raced. He has a berk, and as far as I know, stock 454 with a high rise intake. So I believed the rumors about jacuzzi's??? What gives?
-
could be the hull you have, and the rpm's is pretty low, not sure but that sounds like 300hp worth of rpm.
on second thought, it mite be a serious miss match engine combo
-
What do you mean by miss match?
-
What do you mean by miss match?
wrong rpm range for the camshaft/low compression/timing not right/carb not rite?
-
arrrrrrrr. so which should i start with first on the process of elimination? it runs good, just my rpms are low and i was thinking that i should get a little more mph than i do? my hull is a 74 challenger
-
I START WITH THE TIMING 36 DEG @ 3000 RPMS TO START, HAVE YOU CHECKED THE ROCK GATE ON THE INTAKE OR EVEN TOOK A LOOK UP IN THEIR. O0
-
i checked it out once boost, and everything looked good up in there, and in the hand hole to, his pump seems nice and tight no play in the shaft or nada but i do smoke him >:D >:D. i really think it might be his hull , its a 1/4 stringer.does that mean they make up the missing stringer length by thicker fiberglass and gel and possibly make his boat way heavy
-
be more concerned about rpm, when you get the rpm you will get his ass >:D the lack of rpm tells me the pump is probably in fair condition (did i say probably?) what is your mph? and what is the engine combo
-
Not sure what mph i'm hitting? I just know that all i can push is 4200 rpms? I also don't know the details on the engine combo. I need to do some investigating... Timing will be first boost, and yes I have checked, lupee to.

LMFAOOOO! THAT IS JILAROUS!!!!!! ;D
Boost has many great points there though. Gotta read in between the caps........
If you were outpowering the 'cuzzi, rpms would be off the charts. Seems like you have a problem powering the pump to begin with, to me. So Boost is making the correct diagnosis that the basics are screwed.
FWIW, Ralph's expertise not withstanding, I've seen some VERY hot running Hondo's out here locally and cannot say it's a "crap" hull. Moo held her own last year, This year Pickles done fine for a 350 or so HP BBC, but quite a few Hondo's (and others) have handed me my ass this year playing around. Some of those I know for a fact woulda handed Moo her ass similarly even were she even running right (Flytime was in Moo to hear the pop that was the indicator something was seriously wrong at the Tom Papp deal, little did I know, and two trips later it REALLY reared its ugly head).
Anyway, unless your pushing well over tha 5k rpm line, the pump is NOT the problem. And could very well be, as Boost pointed out, a tune issue to get to that point where the pump IS the issue. Even then, your 'Cuzzi can be worked to handle this. The work involved in switching, well, I'll leave that to Tom or JIm, but ain't cheap. Then you still have to build a different pump that you were gonna build anyway. :screwy:

ok let me re-state ::) not all hondo's are turd's
just mine was in its current form ;)
-
The pump thing was just a question to get all yer opinions. I will have to start messing with the timing and go from there.

For what its worth I am turning a WJ to 5K-5100.
With some upcoming bowl work I am hoping to get the RPM down and the MPH up and possibly add a droop.
-
yea i need to do some investigating, hopefully soon. just didnt think it was putting out what it should.
