Outta the hole issues with my golden eagle...

I own a 77 challenger with a 454, when i stomp it, it seams to purge before it moves the boat. What is need to solve this? No up grade have been done to it as far as i know. Thanks in advance...

Not familiar with a golden eagle pump....never seen or heard of one being on a Challenger before 🤔

Your gonna need to give the folks a lil more info., and what do you mean by purge, whats purging?

When you get on it is there a bad vibration? Could be a number of things. Hopefully folks with more knowledge than me will chime in.

Did you suck something up into the jet?
Jet might need to be rebuilt?

Just off the top of my head

I heard i could retro a Berkley bowl up to it because it's not as friendly as a berk... is this possible?

 No Jet is clean, when i say purge,i mean it's almost as if it's not moving water for a second when i let of pedal and stomp again it the boat will then "get it"... ?

 The fella i purchased the boat from kinda explained this "little issue"to me saying that he thinks the motor had too much hp for the jet  but also said the Jet had only 18 hours on the rebuild, but im afraid it needs one...

Hmmm I'm absolutely no expert but for some reason it sounds like your pumps not loading properly.

Here is a copy of what Tom at Jet Boat Performance in Atascadro said about these pumps .... Tom does know his pumps...I would probably give him a call.

Both Challenger I have had both have had Berkeley E pump with stock 460 Ford's and have been great.


The Golden Eagle is simply a Jacuzzi 12YJ that was produced as a transom mount or "insert pump" (similar to the Berk "E") they are an axial flow jet designed to move larg volumes of water The work well as designned but do not respond well to added HP .They can be upgraded with the American turbine "Energizer" kits to produce very respectable performance (done several with very good results )  Tom
