Title: je pump trashed, anyone got a extra they want to part with
Post by: Streetfreak64 on July 08, 2009, 08:10:30 PM
Hi been reading the posts here and looks like a group of guys with enough knowledge on jet drives to write an book or two. (shit maybe you have for all I know). OK heres what I have, thurst bearing complete failure, gone ,shot.ect. shaft moved forward and impell. locked up on wear ring and almost sawed the pump into. went deep enough to cut into hand hole about a inch. now I need a je-A pump or at least a good suction housing shaft and A -impeller. If you have a extra give me a shout, Thanks

I have an extra housing . You'll need at least a new wear ring and impellor and bearing of course along with all the necissary gaskets :sly:

Also be forewarned the JE pump I beleive is epoxied to the hull, so might be a bit fun getting the housing out. Can't really change it to another style pump easily either.
Good luck with it. (only stuff I have from a JE is the nozzle, with rudder, and a reverse bucket painted titty pink and says Moooo on it, if you need it).

Who are you kidding ,removing pump was a breeze.all you need is a couple of week ends,3 cases of bud,a couple of buddys to cheer you on and a bunch of fire ants.(The fire ants are for speed, the bud is for the ant bites, and the buddys are useless) .But I won and pump is out and hull no damaged. Think the stuff holding it in was called "SUPER-PUTTY".

My GAWD I hope he took one, LMAO, that's some funny sheit right there!
Dude, you made my focking day! And I KNOW it wasn't that easy.........Finding enough fire ants for THREE wekeends in a ROW! :D
Ray
Edit; Hold on, Just realized you were from Alabama, so the fire ants and drunk cheering buddies are easy to find, and you prolly chained the boat to a tree and pulled the pump with your 4x4 right? :D
J/K dude, really, but still funny. We don't do stereotypes around here........ O0........................

Thanks for the replys on the pump ,found 1 in Ca. .Hope to get my boat going for next week end. Whats are the pros and cons of changing my boat from points to electronic . I have the 460 1979 cvx20 and HATE points. Any advice why a car system would or would not work . BTW ,after 4 or 5 hours under the boat, that truck ,chain and tree did cross my mind.

Pulled off a few bumpers in my day that way (And straghtened a few), lol. Digital ignition is the way to go, really. I have a total Mallory system on the Moo, and the Saguaro is getting the same exact thing. pretty painless and trouble free, and NO CHIPS to buy to change the rpm limiter feature! (Dip switches)
But MSD, and some of the off brands would probably be ok too. Really anythings better than points! Theres a reason they haven't been used in cars in 30 years! Definately a worthwhile upgrade. As far as cons? there ain't any other than it ain't cheap and you gotta retune the engine all over again.
I'm running a Unilite Dizzy, Hyfire 6AL box and Pro-coil (Be careful on the Pro-Coil, only certain model numbers are compatable with Unilites and the HyFire unit). Most people on here are either HEI or MSD, which are fine as well.

Call Tom at JBP. Do yourself a favour. I've seen 5 now that I actually bid on on Ebay and a couple on various Craigslists, they all end up going for right around or more than I paid Tom for a brand new one! Got it in less than 4 days too! Electrowoman did the same thing.
Save the headaches, comes with EVERYTHING you need, all screws, seals, new bushings, even a little tube of red loctite. Had mine in in about an hour and a half (While drinking beer mind you, which might kinda explain why I lost the bolt from the reverse bucket at speed at Big River!). Other than that, has been FLAWLESS!
