Post by: 19ftspectra on May 12, 2012, 11:15:13 PM
ok so  i am getting a new jet  intake for my boat   and everyone asks if i am getting a ride plate and shoe...   my answer is i dont know  ..  should i ??   i have a low hp bbc  in a 19 ft spectra mini cruiser  with a berk 12jca  pump.. ..  i get the point of  well your going to have it out so just do it..  but  i must ask  why just do it??  i have been searching on  this and other sites and cant understand it..  from what i get  the shoe  helps to load the pump.   and the plate i think helps to plane out the boat..  but doesnt my diverter do the same thing?  angle it down and the nose should drop ???   or am i missing the whole concept.  i need first grader help  folks....  sorry  but i am at the point .. i need to just put it in or get it machined...   thanks   robbie :banghead:

I've done the research myself except from a high HP BBC point of view. Here's what I understand about it. It will help any boat in all around performance. Simple things like pulling a skier out of the water will be a little eaiser. Less bounce at slower speeds. Fuel mileage should be a little better as well. If you want to set up your jet well and be done with it adding a mild stuffer in place of the rock grate and extending the snoot will give you the best all around performance your boat is capable of. Looking at the big picture the cost of a shoe/ride plate is small now. Once you put it together it becomes a large job to do it later.

I know we are here to help each other and not sell services, however Tom at JBP will give you free advice about what you have. He does hope to sell you what you need, but he's not the type to sell you something you don't. My experience with him.

Keep doing your research and there are a lot of guys here that know more than I do about this.

Depends on the bottom of the boat, short answer is yes you'll have to grind a notch out to fit the rideplate
