Title: Jet pumps and salt water?

 :screwy:I live in Florida and wanted to know if salt water will hurt a jet pump? I'm sure you would want to flush the pump with fresh water after use, but are there any long term bad effects? If anyone has experience with this let me know, Thanks Chris

First off, welcome aboard!!!

I have run jets in salt water water in Oregon, the thing that gets effected the most is the impeller if it is aluminum, we switched to stainless because of some serious erosion issues...

Also a sea strainer is recommended, I don't know how clean the waters are in Florida, but in Oregon, the driftwood and kelp were out of control... :banghead:

Second, remember that salt water is more dense, so it pumps harder....You may lose about 100 RPM or so (at least this is what we saw.).

A good washing is required, the aluminum parts if unpainted or "raw" will disappear right in front of your eyes if in long term..
