A friend of mine (Jetaholic) who has done a complete resto on a marlin calls me and ask me if I could help him out in rebuilding his pump . (I cant remember exactly what events took place nor in what order) Turns out he was taking his freshly restored boat out for its maiden voyage he noticed a ton of water in his bilge . Motor was also dead and as the boat came to stop his wake also came over and swamped the boat .This thing was going down and in a hurry . A freind of his who finally got his boat fired up after having issues of his own comes around to the rescue . Got the boat on the trailer and as he's pulling it out of the water , the winch starts to unreel and the boat is headed for the water on it's own this time , but he saves it . WHEW !
So anyways here is the boat in question .78 marlin I believe . All new wood inside . New Gel. New 454 . New upholstery . New gages . New wiring .New trailer. And last but not least , it had a fresh pump .

Once again I will say that in MY OPINION you dont need to lather ever crack and crevise of your pump with silicone . I wanted to take my own life when I saw all the silicone John put on his pump . It took a 3 ft. crow bar , alot of finesse , even more foul language and about 5 min. to get this transome cover off .

Here is the culprit . I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it is a piece of gauld up aliminum . It was definatly aluminum though .

I had to double drill the new suction housing because the Jet-a-way uses 8 bolts versus the berkely 4.

Once again Tom @ Jet Boat Performance to the rescue . Tom overnighted an impellor with the matching wear ring so John could get it on saturday . We reassembled the suction housing with the new impellor and we could not for the life of get his old bearing out .
NOTE PEOPLE : Do not let the powder coater get powder coat on anything other than the surface that will be showing .
So after pacing back and forth like caged animals and already facing defeat I remembered that I had a bearing in stock , on the shelf , ready for installation . ;D Team Cold Beer racing to the rescue ! ;D :D

I will say that you could turn the shaft by hand before but after , you could turn it with 2 fingers and it felt like butter . Oh so smooth .

At this point , I'm panicing because I work on my own shit all the time . This is someone elses boat and I would hate for something to happen to someone elses ride due to my incapability or even worse , somebody gettin hurt . He stuck around till the next day and we hit Elsinore . Drove through a monsoon and we are on the water .
Passed the leak check and we're off !

I am not a proffesional ! This is by no means meant to be taken as instructions on how to work on your pump. There are plenty of proffessionals out there who are willing to give great and proffessional advise !

Yeah I gotta say...a million thanks to Omar for helping me out with this. I couldn't find anyone here locally that could help with this project, but I knew Omar had done a few pumps so I called on him to help me with this one.
Once we got the pump back together and spun it by hand I could tell a night and day difference...I just knew it was gonna work.
He even had a set of header water lines to replace the ones on my right header that got burned up due to a battery shorting on them (the battery wasn't hooked up at the time that happened).
Then I got ahold of Topless from Hot Boat, and she invited us over. And of course we brought alcohol...was planning on driving home that night until the alcohol started flowin'. So I opted to stay another night and spent the night at Topless's place.
The next day we hit Elsinore...even though the water was rough I had a blast. And the boat did wonderfully.
Then today I got off work early and went to a local lake here...again the boat did great.
And again a major thanks to Tom at Jet Boat Performance for hookin' up the parts quickly and answering any and all questions we had regarding the reassembly.
This is what I love about the boating community...everyone steps in to help each other out in a pinch.

The only thing I could think of was when the boat came down from hoping a wake , the impellor tried to jam and the torque of the motor cracked the housing . Other than that I dont know . Jetaholic was going to take it to Toms to get his opinion . I'm very curious myself.

The blown boat is for jon , he's in awe of sorts that someone would get in one knowing the power that they have . He still hasnt flat footed his own boat , so a blown boat kind of raises his eye brows . With that being said , it's kind of an inside thing and has nothing to do with the TECH end of my thread and could have been handled in a PM .
I am going to start smiting "thread jackers" at will for uneeded comments that divert threads in a diffrent direction .It's not fair to lurkers and anyone watching a thread go away to some other topic in hope of getting something out of it . Contribute to the threads or use a PM.

btw we see cracks like the one in the cleanout area commonly (similar to Jons) suctions (especially "e" suctions) and IMO can occur with "loading" problems,flying the boat etc however this cracked suction was not due to that (again IMO) I'd be honored to see all the pieces some day if you saved them just for the heck of it .. Tom
BTW.. everyone periodically check your "cleanout bolts" for saftey's sake

Good job guys.
There are probably 3 of those sitting on a shelf at Aggressor looking nearly identical to that.... Correlation between them all? I don't know? Before I sold my jet, I called Berkeley to ask questions to find out when exactly the pump was made, etc. etc. They couldn't answer a single question for me. Jetboat performance did however answer my questions. At the same time I had some Panther questions to ask for my friend all they did was tell me a Panther won't do over 55. When I told them it did much more than that I couldn't produce any proof. Now I can, hopefully Tom gets to this thread...
The video's of the boat actually running down river were from last season when it had a 142 Weiand on it. The one in the driveway is with the 6v71 TBS blower.

haha. It was probably a year and a half ago. We were looking for a B stator housing on the panther. Not my boat, but he wanted to put the smaller big block nozzle on there instead of the 5 1/2'' small block nozzle... In stock form shes almost running 80 now. I'm personally an Aggressor fan. I've kinda grown up with the Aggressor family. Been friends with Dave's grandson for almost 10 years. In fact I think Brandon is coming out to Castaic Lake with us on Sunday morning. Again, sorry for the continued thread jack. However if you guys need pump parts and he has them in stock Dave is a great guy to deal with.

its like a quick disconnect for your pump so you can run it on the trailer.....very cool, but very pricey.

Chromey that a Jetaway "Ratchet'' or one way clutch made by Hitech in Missori its allows the Jet to be manually "disengaged" (nuetral) for tuning .running on the trailer etc also it ratchets on decel allowing a "decel disengage" of the Jet vs engine while under way! Very sort of spendy ,likely has saved a few lives especially during unexpected engine failures etc Tom

Unfortunately no. My job is changing our days off to Wednesday/Thursday for the next 5-6 weeks. Fuckers!
I may start lookin' for a different job soon...I can't deal with having weekdays be my weekends.
I did however take the boat out after work Tuesday and Wednesday and she did great both times. Even blew the shit out of a jet ski while I was out there Tuesday. Impressed 'em with my rooster tail. :D
I need to take a trip to your place Tom and maybe have us go to Nacimiento with her...maybe you could show me some tuning secrets. :D

you should see mead, down 8 ft since last summer about 100 total. they're moving the marinas again. check the watrer line above my truck..that was last summer!

thanks guys...i see that there is not a jucuzzi on that list.......but u say pricy$$$$ but when tuning @ home, u cant always have the boat in the water.....and w/ a jucuzzi having a plastic wear ring and it not being in the water....it may save the pump from being rebuilt if the specs are tight????? just asking...
