Are you talking about a pop off valve?
It opens and vents water out of the jet to help slow the boat down. One of the best investments I've made on my ride.

How is it triggered and does it help using that instead of abruptly letting out of the throttle ?

There are 2 ways the valve will open, Theres a sensor that reads pressure in the jet. If it goes over 150lbs of pressure it will go off. Or i have a button on the steering wheel that will open it.
I think that any boat that runs over 90 should either have a jet away or a valve. Shutting down with a pop off valve is like slowing down on clouds, you don't even have to try and throttle it out. Lays down nice a smooth.

Circle boats don't use them.....
If you get one, make sure it matches your purse and heels.
