i needed to change my motor oil so i warmed my boat up on the trailer with water running through the motor but not the jet. when i was all done and i put the boat back in my garage i noticed gear oil leaking out of the nozzle of the jet and from the intake underneath the boat. i know i screwed up big time any suggestions on what i should do. i have a berkeley jet on my boat.

Sounds like the bowl seal/bushing is no good.

The seals are put in to keep the water out, but not to keep the oil in. That's why you have to top the bowl off all the time. If the shaft was worn where the seal rides, it would leak all the time (even when it's just sitting), and not just when you run it on the trailer. The oil probably just got a little warm in the bowl and expanded, creating a little pressure that forced some of the oil through the seal. I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless it continues to do it, even when you're not running the boat. And next time, so you don't have any pump issues, you should disconnect the drive line when you run the boat on the trailer, it can also screw up your wear ring tolerances, if you do it too much. ;)

Thanks, after it leaked the oil out i toped off the bowl and wiped everything down and it didnt leak anymore until i towed it to my new house and when i backed it into the garage i noticed it leaked a lot of oil out again just from towing it.

Probably bad seal or worn shaft then. Might want to pop the bowl off and take a look.
Good luck. O0

Leaking or "fowled" bowl seal (fishing line etc) no biggy , just keep it full for the next few trips ,tear it down this winter and will coach you thru fixing it ,plenty of good info and help here on the boards Tom

I just got back from running the boat this weekend. Backed it in the back yard and noticed the same problem. oil leaking out of the nozzle and dripping out of the bottom of the nozzle. Should I be ok for the rest of the summer? Wait till the winter? Or is it an easy fix?

i have talked to a few different people about it and they all have said to just top it off with oil and keep your eye on it for the rest of the season i am going to go to laughlin in a couple weeks so i will let you know how it goes.
