Hello Thanks in advance for any help
I have a 2001 Sugar Sand Tango with 210 HP Mercruser it was running fine 45 to 50 mph with a 600 lb Load all of the suddent now it will not do over 15 to 20 mph at WOT. I took the Impeller housing off Coated with JB Weld Sanded down Replace extreamly tight Tollerance Impler looks Good I used Marine Grade Silcone around the ride plate to Haul gap trying to make sure I was not getting air bubles. I am at witts end I am a Disabled Vet very little Income. Realy cant even afford a Boat but I stole it for 500.00 running. But I cant give it up because its Just Good Family Time at least it was. Can anyone help I realy dont know what to try next. I have a very High Mecahnical Aptitude and acsess to allot of tools, I am just stummped at
1 What Cuased the Problem
2 How to Fix.

Currently, I don't know of any members that have ever worked on the Sugar Sand type of jet boats (too new). If you look around a little you'll find that we are all running the classic jet boat style of boats.
That being said... Welcome to SCJB ;D
Unfortunately because of our lack of experience with the jet you have, you're not likely going to get much of a response to your questions. If you post some pictures of what you have going on, and what you think might be the problem, we might be able to help you identify the issue.

Here is a short list.
Check for the reverse gate not going 100% open.
Check that the ride plate did not get over torqued, this will allow air to be sucked and and do some weird stuff.
Make sure all the bolts are in the right place and none missing.
Check out the exhaust seal near the transom, this keeps the exhaust gases from being pulled into the jet unit..
I have some buddies that race these things on rivers, I will post your question on the other forum... ;)

This is a conventional merc 2.5L powerhead...just like an outboard. If you instantaneously lost that much speed/power, and the drive end looks good...make sure that all 6 cylinders are firing. With it idling, put a timing light on each plug wire to see if you've got a dead bank. If you do, it's a bad switch box or stator. You can diagnose which by simply swapping the switch boxes and see if the problem transfers to the other bank. If it does, it's a switchbox. If it doesn't, that points to the stator. Get me the colors of all the wires coming out below the flywheel and I can give you the test specs...there were a few different ones.

It Looks Like Yellow wires Comming from the STATOR
Can I just use a spark plug tester to check each Bank as I dont have a timing light anymore ( I gave it away thought I would never use it :( )
So the engine can still achive top RPM even if som cylinders are not firing ? the reason I ask is the Boat is still noisey as the day I first started it :)
P.S. I have never regretted writing a blank check to the US Army and to serve my country. I just wish the VA would Honor the promise to care for me after getting injured during Desert Shield/Storm. Regardless I still love my country and would die for that red white and blue even today.

I Just found this post after using GT Terminology " ride plate " as they say half the battle is knowing the Language. I do remember this problem started after running aground and we took on allot of water was all the way up to the bottom carb. to keep from sinking I dropped the deck bilge pump down into the ski compartment I had boat at max capacity when this happened my right arm does not work so my wife and daughter had to jump out and help push the boat off the sand bar that we never should have hit but I was drafting to deep. I have since replaced the bilge in the engine compartment. but I bet that did not fix the problem just removed the symptom of filling up with water. i bet that very same leak is causing air to mixed with water IE Cavitation. I do remember the boat shooting out a very noticeable rooster tale in the past now it just looks like allot of white wash kind of like a hot tub. I still plan on checking STATOR and switchbox's as well maybe even first as it is less labor. and I will have to get help.

You are getting aerated water. Remove the ride plate and inspect all the areas of the exhaust. Here is a diagram of the exhaust and where there can be problems. The exhaust blows out of the red areas disturbing the water flow and causing cavitation. Was the correct impeller installed same as original

If water can get in, air can get out. Fix the pump.
A spark checker will work fine....if all 6 are firing, the ignition is good

Wow Finally Got the Ride Plate off Was told a Trick that Worked Well Heated Bolts with Torch and applied Bees Wax All But the one I had already Stripped came out No Problem

Would I be Correct to Assume that if it has Corrosion around were the bolts and the seal would be that means that air had to be getting in ?
