been reading lots about gear oil but probably easier just to ask? Running a Panther Jet.. (I know...the "Black Pump" of the jet drive family). I replaced the water seal and gear oil at the start of this summer and by the end of the season it looks exactly the same as when I started. :screwy: My question is, am I doing any damage to the drive unit running it this way? And did I maybe do something wrong during install? (Have the Panther maint. manual and thought I followed it exactly). any/all advice appreciated. Thx. Vic

there is a seal on the shaft that prevents water from entering the bearing area. its *VERY* sensitive to fouling... since you already know the insides of your panther, pull the housing and impeller out and inspect the seal.

I will order another water seal from Panther (they aren't that expensive) just don't know what or when it went bad. Ran as it always has, just don't know if its causing probs down the line. Has your Panther had similar issues? Thanks for the replies
