impeller help!!!
« on: June 11, 2010, 07:55:33 PM »
i bought a new impeller and today i went to change it out. the nut that is on the shaft that buts up to the impeller was so rusty and had been on there so long i had to cut it off. Now i thought that the impeller would just pull right off but it wont budge. I tried a harmonic balance puller but the jaws just tore big chunks off the impeller. it is stuck on there extremely tight. I called berkeley and i can rent a tool but i cant until monday and it will take a week to get to me. does anyone have any ideas how i might be able to pull it off? preferbaly with out pulling the engine. THank you

I have heard people using a torch to heat it up to help it come off. Otherwise I am no help what so ever :screwy: I am sure the pro's will chime in shortley  Send Jim Brock or Tom @ JBP a PM.

You're a topside whacker too, but we don't hold that against ya!  ;)

Seriously, call Tom or Jim. I've heard the same things using heat, more hammering. Never done it myself, I'm dangerous enough left to my own devices on the paint and engine portion of the deal. I leave the pumps to the pros.

Don't give up , Not a fan of heat on these deals ,if the puller your useing has pulled the ring off the back there are still ways of getting this off , likley that the impeller is dragging the Key with it making things worse , alot depend on the recourse available to you (press? etc) call me I'll be at the shop from noon till 6 Tom
