Title: Need advice on diverter for 12JE
Post by: Knightnight on March 12, 2021, 06:47:28 AM
I want to install trim kit for my 12JE. I have been looking at the place diverters but all seem to have cables above the water line. This is a rec boat, not a race boat.18ft Jack Keaton.

1. Is there a diverter I can install that has cables below the water line, in addition somehow below my swim platform/jet cover? My boat has a swim platform cover that sites directly over top of the pump. I am not sure if any diverter would be compatible. You can see from the link my steering and reverse cable mounts are mounted low on the bottom rear transom. I would like to run the hydraulic trim control lines on the left rear bottom transom. Could I somehow use the existing lower right rear reverse cable hole with  place diverters?

2. Also do the diverters include a rudder or can I keep the one I have?

It has a swim platform cover like this:

Yes I saw that low profile one, but it doesnt say it works with 12JE or even 12JF

Could you post some pictures of your actual nozzle/cables?  Please take pictures looking 1) straight forward from the rear, 2) horizontal from the right side, and 3) up from underneath.  Try to get pictures that illustrate clearance and interference.

It may also be possible to utilize some of your brackets.

The 4 holes visible in the straight on picture is where the existing swimplatform/pump covers mounts.

Steering and reverse cable are on the bottom right rear (two holes directly on top of each over)

For clearance underneath between the swim platform and the pump there isn't much. You can see the exposed steel color right on top of the end of the pump, that is where a block of wood sits and the swim platform rests on top of that. So maybe 3 inches or so between nozzle exit and top of swim platform. Picture of swim platform design in in my original post, 2nd link.

Hydraulic Place Diverter on my old 20’ cruiser w/ molded in swim step & JE pump. I imagine it would work the same for your application. If you go with a Place Diverter you will need their rudder if you think you need one. My boat had their large rudder (see pic)

Where is your re-boarding ladder/step, hard to tell from the pictures. I think I see in the first one, two black steps on both sides of the pump or are those trim tabs?

It’s my old boat the step is part of the hull. Maybe 4-5“ above the pump? Can’t remember for certain but I couldn’t really get my hand down into the hand hole the one time I sucked up some algae, thank god there was a kid around that day

The black things are shadows I think or transom straps. Had trim tabs but took them off, the brackets were still on the boat

Gotcha thank you. I ordered a place diverter fine tune kit for my pump. I will tackle a re-boarding ladder or swim platform after I get it installed. Might just do small aluminum swim platform to the side of the pump. Maybe one all the way across but I don't want to interfere with the clean out port of course.

Place diverter makes and actual diverter for the JE pump that uses the original cable positions ... and FYI the one pictured above is a Berkeley JF same pump as a Berkeley JE but came with the Berkeley jet o vator trim

If you’re talking about my old boat pics, I’m pretty sure it was a JE, it only had the two control cables coming through the hull, JF has 3 the extra for the stock electric trim. I was told it was a JE when I purchased it, but yeah mostly the same pump either way
