Title: need guru opinions!
Post by: sandman on February 09, 2011, 10:53:14 PM
Ok guys I think its time for a pump rebuild. Last season started getting some whining out of the pump and tried to pull a tube and the boat just fell on its face cavitating matter of fact if I tried to hole shot it it would just cavitate but if I slow rolled it and got it up on plane it would get me where I need to go and still maintain a great top speed 62-65 mph. Be honest I already have a gutt feeling anyway! I wanna do this rebuild myself I just enjoy knowing every nut and bolt I havnt done one in the past but wouldnt mind saving the money on a pump rebuild from a local shop. give me the need to knows!

Just went through this myself....i was having this exact problem, and i found out why as soon as i pulled the bowl...it was loaded with duct tape! It is pretty simple to do the rebuild...i had to goto a boat shop to have the impeller pulled but questions as you go will go a long ways

Mike as Josh (nordie) just learned , despite a few "DYI" obstacles this is pretty simple and straight forward stuff , helps to have coaching and avoid the few pitfalls that may arise , We build and repair jets almost every day and talk folks thru these deals routinely , the toughest part of this operation IMO is getting the impeller nut and impeller pulled ,were  around evenings and weekend if you have questions or need help Tom

ps heres a tutorial PDF for you to study if your interested ...
