...was looking at mine tonight and can see that it could use some work. If ur gonna tell me that I should take out my wallet and leave it to the pros...please go away. I'm a boat owner w/ an unemployed spouse and I bought a house last year, therefor I'm broke...so it ain't gonna happen. I've got a pile of die grinders and a drawer full of sander rolls and carbides, so I figure I can waste away a couple evenings on it and it can't hurt. Just looking for pics of how far others have gone.

I've taken a long shank carbite bit to the exit of my bowl, and blended it in about 4"s. Don't know if it helped or hurt it, never did a back to back test. But there was some obvious casting flaws so I know it had to help flow some. From what I understand is that the entrance of the bowl is supposed to be more "blunt" and the exit is supposed to be sharp. I'm sure Tom will come in with more info

The more material that is removed the better it will flow, on the reverse, it also becomes weakened.
I always make sure things are mostly smooth to the touch and equal in length. Otherwise leave it pretty much alone.
FWIW, I have used Extrude Hone in SoCal with awsome results, not sure if it's worth the $200+ though.
Unless you're trying for the century mark, there is pretty much no way you will be able to "feel" the difference...Just my .02 and could be wrong...But IMHO cleaning things up could never hurt.
Another thought of mine is, whatever time spent on the bowl, you should spend on the impeller, the problem is having the ability to balance it back out since it is a rotating force....
I have the ability to dynamically (two plane balance) balance a stainless steel impeller, have had limited success with aluminum (too light for dynamic) typically static, or single plane balance...
The Chaz here on the site has one that I "cleaned up", I don't know if he has pics of it though. :-\

i didnt get super carried away with mine, i dont even know if it is right or not, but all i did was get rid of casting slash and cavitation divits. i blended the transition into the butt plug. ;D

What about the front side of the bowl? Did you do any work to it? IMFO the front side of the bowl is the more important than the exit side. Don't get me wrong the exit side is important to. I would like to see pics of the other side. FYI the last pump i blueprinted he gained 10 mph,but i did rebuild the at the same time but with the same impeller.

im leaving the front side to the guy whos doing my pump work, i dont wanna screw it up. it needs to be machined anyways

Damn i wish i had taken some pics while i had it apart this weekend..
Now that im looking at these pics, mine has a lot different look to it.. it had a lot of grind marks, as if it was ported.!? (and a lot less material left. lol) Much sharper "blades"
