Hey Guy's still new to the forum and i have a question, I'm going to be installing all new water hose in my boat I'm using XRP push lock hose with a/n fittings. And I'm going to copy what i have as far as the hose layout it a stock BBC with a Berkeley 12 jg
My question is what size gate valve should i use 1/2 or 3/4 all my hose is 5/8 and it will stay the same size. should i put a pressure relief valve kit and thermostat, so far i have had no problems water temperature is 140/150° at idle and when on the throttle 180ish°if any one can shed some light thank you very much.

180 is pretty hot for a jet boat. I would work on that. 160 is what I consider max. However this is just my to cents. I have a half inch valve.

Wow i was thinking that was ok , what sould i be looking at to lower my temp?

The boat performs well no problems knock on wood. I've heard some people blow water lines so i thought I would nip that problem in the bud but now i could be having more issues not cool...

It should cool down when your cruising then right after to idle it might spike 20 degrees. But once back to cruising or idling around for a few the temp will come back down. Push lock is cool...I have it on my entire system but be careful how much you tighten then. I've replaced my entire set of fittings as they tend to crack on the inside angle of the female side. Get as many 90's or what ever angle for the npt to male so the cost will be less in the lock fitting in straights.

Your set up sounds close.
I use 3/4" gate valves. My reason is because of the better throttling capability of the larger valve. Seems overkill, but I have been doing it for years.
How much horsepower are you playing with and how large is your dump fitting? (Inside diameter).

GT you kinda lost me with that one if your talking about the fitting coming in from the transom/ jet, it's 1/2 all the fittings are stock from what I can see.

Is your engine stock from the factory? Or has the HP increased?
Being as the engine runs warmer running harder, it sounds like one of four possibilities.
One, the temperature gauge is wonky and not reading quite right. (sort of doubt this).
Two, the dump line is undersized for the amount of HP you have. (not likely unless you are making some respectable HP, like in the upper 500 range).
Three, the engine is full of sand and cannot cool effectively at the higher demand. (100% possible and happens often).
Four, the engine is running lean or the timing is extremely retarded (possible, but very easy to confirm).
Do you have any pictures of the set up?
And I do not think you need a bypass valve, but to each their own... The thermostat question has been covered here thousands of times and I really don;t want to go down that road again, but I will say that if you run a thermostat, get one like whats found on an I/O engine and run a block mounted automotive style water pump...

If there's sand in the water jackets of the heads and block , what would be the best way to get it out . I'll get pictures of my plumbing tonight as far as horse power just edelbrock 2.0 performer intake and a holley 780 cfm .

Flush, flush and flush some more.
I have had to pull the freeze plugs to get it all out.

Wow should i put a nylon at the end of the out let hose to see how much sand i get out and should i be running the engine for this with water running into the jet as well ?

If i can keep her running for this summer that would be fine i don't really want to do any tear down now unless I really have to.

I have used a close hanger to break things up before. You will not need to have the engine running for this deal. Have fun you will know if this is your problem soon.

Yep. Pull the block drains and see what you find in there.

Ok I'll give it a try, i was also thinking of tapping a 1/4 in pipe tap in the thermostat housing and installing a pressure gauge to read h2o pressure. Any ideas?

Yes, with the exception of I use Push Loc fittings and hose before the valve. Is that a 3/4" valve or 1/2"?
Looks nice. Don't forget to snug up the packing to keep the valve from moving. I also tie wrap it once it's set.

It's a 1/2in valve , so set it and then zip ty it so it wont close shut. ok got it thanks is 1/2 going to be okay because I did pick up a 3/4 in also.

You might be fine.
The reason I use a 3/4" valve is because it seems to have a little more adjustability and is a little less over reactive.
1/2" might work great.
The tie wrap is to prevent people from playing around while the boat's in the parking lot at Bevmo.
