They work pretty good... I'm just not a fan of the aluminum that can get the whole electrolysis action... being the down side. Other than that... they work well.

How hot is the oil getting?
These remove a lot of heat being aluminum. The corrosion factor is of big concern.
I personally would go copper.
You will need to plumb this with a bypass if your oil doesn't get to over 300°F.
Why do you think you need a cooler?
I run a cooler off of the dump line to help heat the oil.

i drive my boat pretty hard and at a pretty decent rpm I figured it would be a little more insurance for all the money I got invested in the motor so should I have concern about the aluminum heads

Unanswerable unless you know the current oil temps.
We ran a 496 for 40 miles at wide open and the oil was always between 190° and 230°. This was with a tiny oil cooler on the dump line. I think the cooler was under 20 square inches with 140°F water going through it.
The oil ran right at 250°F with the cooler isolated. Would have been fine without it, but being on the dump, it heated the oil much quicker.
Without a known oil temp, your grasping at straws.
Should be above 220, below 260.

Copper....
Just glass beading works better than anodizing.

My oil temps were 260-270 degrees. Once my oil temp came up, my oil preasure dropped. I would have never know if I wouldn't have put a oil temp gauge. I personally love my Dan Olson oil cooler. I can hold the throttle wide open for a while and the most my gauge will see is 220 degrees. Cruising my gauge reads 195-205. I hope this helps

I had problems with my oil temps on a new motor. Hitting 300 and on the rise. I found out differnt oils can handle those really high temps but I bought that Dan Olson and love it. My motor was also running higher then I though so I ended up running 2 dump lines off the motor now everything run ICE cold. So check things out first. You may have other issues leading to high oil temps. But over all the dan olsen was worth the money , peace of mind and extended oil life. Not to mention super easy to install.
