Transom adapter pointers

Hey guys. I don't post much but read a lot on this site.

Long story short I am almost done converting a 21 outboard omega to a jet.

454 is in as well as the jet. I went to put the TA on and now not sure what to do with this hole where the plug used to be.

Also not sure if maybe I have the wrong TA as it seems there is a pretty large gar between the bowl and the TA .

Looking for any pointers you guys have so I can get this on there and move on to the next step.

I took pics with it off and then with it on. You can see where the TA partially covers it. Not sure if I should drill out a hole and keep it or plug it up. If I drill it out there won't be much material there to seal up I don't think.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I would bevel the edges of the hole put a wood plug in it and glass over it

That original drain hole has a brass sleeve in it. I would remove the sleeve and run a known size Forstner bit through it and get some dowel and epoxy it in. You can coat both sides with some thickened epoxy and sand it smooth.

As for the adapter. It looks like the pump was installed a touch too far rearward for it to fit correctly. You will likely not find an "off the shelf" transom adapter to work. Your best bet would be to pick up a chunk of plastic butcher block plastic and make a shim spacing it back like 1/2". That's a little bit backwoods, but will work perfect.

That's a lot of work. Nice job.

Don't claim to be no boat expert by any means?? But what about trimming the transom adapter to fit the lower hole and use it? And have the hole filled in the transom adapter? It's always nice being able to drain all the water out of the hull? And that's for sure a nice low spot? Just thinking out loud here?

I think that would be a great idea if the hole was not so far into the sealing area of the T/A. Not only that, but it would be a whore to remove/replace.

That is what I am thinking of doing.

You think 1/2" is enough for a spacer? I am not sure exactly where the t/a is supposed to be on the bowl. Any idea where to get that plastic you speak of?

It is a ton of work but the boat was a good price to start with so hopefully it's worth it in the end.

All that is left is floor/ carpet, seats wiring and recounting the gas tanks.

Any hints on recounting the gas tanks? They were glassed in originally

Anywhere on the bowl will be fine, there really is no "spec.".

As for the gas tank mounting, it depends on what tanks. If they were glassed in, I would assume them to be rectangular aluminum. The best way IMHO is to glass in some hard wood and strap them, but it really depends on what you have.

ok sounds good

Yea they are rectangular. They are 20 gal each. I pulled them because they were resting on the side of the hull.putting stress cracks in the gel coat. So I want to mount them so they aren't resting there any more. Is it best to make a bracket on the floor and then have them bolt to that?

I always carpet my tanks where they contact anything at all. It is a cheap solution, but one that works.

you might try IPS, industrial plastic supply. they are right across from angel stadium, you can drive there and select product. UHMW plastic (ultra high molecular weight) should be fine. and it comes in various thicknesses. you may even get away with a lower molecular weight plastic.

if it were me, id patch the bilge plug hole in the TA and use the existing one in the boat. its much lower and will keep the bilge dry. i dunno how much luck you'll have draining a boat out of a hole thats 4" higher than the lowest point of the bilge...

With that much bowl hanging out...why not make a trans plate with a half circle for the clean out an just use the hole in boat for drain... Here's a build...

It looks like the suction flange is lined up pretty well. When I did mine before my setback, I sealed only the suction housing flange to the TA to facilitate removal of the bowl without having to remove the TA. I ran a bead around both the inside and the outside, forcing as much silicon through the gap as possible (with the bowl removed) and filletted it as to not interfere with the bowl assembly.

Hey I'm new a few years into jetboat but from what I hear the farther back the pump the better as far as performance Goes. Also I see a wider gap at the top of your tax than the bottom. It looks like u have a 0 degree adapter. Many hulls have diff transom degrees from flat to angled. U can achieve the fill u need w different adapter plates. Ps a jacuzzi t.a. will fit over a berk
