Title: Place diverter nozzle o ring
Post by: bbfsouthwind on May 26, 2014, 08:26:26 PM
I ordered a rebuild kit from place diverter but it seems I got the wrong o ring. My diverter has a small groove and a large diameter Teflon o ring is what I have and it doesn't come close to stretching onto the housing. Is there more than one style? Didn't give any options when ordering  on place diverter website.

That looks right.  You don’t want to stretch or distort the O-ring.  Simply start it in the groove at one point and slide it over and into the groove, working it with both hands in both directions.  It will take a slight amount of force to get the last little bit on.

This o ring just seems too big. It doesn't even get close to coming down into the snoot. The pins are off by a lot, what do I do here? I feel like there is a different o ring that's supposed to go in my place diverter but I can't find anything.

What do the guys a Place say...
I know Berkley made 2 different ones (a thick and thin one) but I would go straight to Place with the issue.

You are indeed correct, there two O-Rings.  One with a .210 cross section (which it appears that you have) and one with a .138 cross section.  Sorry that I missed that.

I want to say that smaller one really needs to pushed down into the groove as well.

That's not causing you ANY vibration....
The ones in the impeller are the ones probably doing some damage though.

That will cause a pretty good vibration at all RPMs but the rocks had to pass through something moving....  ;)

Wish I had a picture of the one we had several years ago, we had a baseball sized rock come right out the side of the bowl. Broke the impeller clean in half. Expensive weekend.

Yes, chances are the seals are already toast though. I replace them every time they are visible.

Betting the impeller is broken/cracked, not rock impregnated..

OK the impeller is fine but your right gt there was no oil left in the bowl and I checked it a couple of trips out so the seals shot , I can't feel any play in the shaft and there was no rocks in the impeller or cracks.

What's the other side the bearing or the entrance to the impeller,  the impeller is clear I crawled under and looked through the intake grate

I think you should pick up the Eastwoods cylinder head porting kit and clean up all those gnarly dings in the stator...

They work really well on the aluminum parts and you just toss em when you're done.

Do you have a puller? I would pull the impeller and just give it a real close inspection. The entering side is where the water enters the impeller and the leading edges are very delicate.

yeah I've got boxes of cartridge rolls I use to do a lot of cylinder head work,  the leading edge most definitely needs to be cleaned up the rocks ate the edge up pretty good,  I was most worried about the vibration so I hope that's gone.
