Would a place diverter be of any benefit to a 24 foot jet? I have a 12Je Berkeley.
Do they help top end at all? My out of the hole dig is fine so no help needed
there.
Would I be wasting my money looking for more top end?
Will these things knock jet skiers off their seats ;D
That would be fun! They are really getting out of hand on our lake. You get a good head of steam
up and they pull right across your path. Are they all nuts or is it just here in good old Central Pa?
-
nah not really, theres more benefits to them rather then top end. one of them is what you said, you get to blast lake maggets off there skis, hahaha and you get more control of the nose with a place diverter, helps my 19 footer out, might be a bit different with your 24 footer.. thats what ive noticed with them. :o

It's too big of a boat. It won't make a rooster with a PD. ;D
here's my 24'

it makes a huge difference in the way the boat rides. Trim down and it plows through chop or trim up to stay on top. I couldn't imagine not having one.
-
damn thats a big ass boat with a big ass rooster ;D ... I would have to agree with legal chem. I couldnt imagine not having one either.. i say get it.. and yes the lake maggets are pretty damn bad out here too. I do my best and take out atleast 3 maggets every time out >:D

I know nothing about them other than they change the exit angle. What brands are available and what drives? Elec? Hyd? manual? I know nothing of what's available.
What do you guys recommend? I'll probably do the impeller change and maybe a place diverter over the winter if it's a big job. I don't want it down now.
Anyone else with a 24 footer have one? How does it effect your boat?
-
The lake bugs here like to try to spray people with their baby jets. So tell me, how far do you think you can you throw them off their baby boat with a blast from your jet. :D
I wouldn't want to do jail time but to fix some of these butt heads would be poetic
justice.
Back on track. Where do you buy parts for your jets? I've done nothing to improve the jet
other than having it rebuilt. What makes these things run, as in what makes them better?

If it was me, I would get a Place Diverter with manual control from Tom at JBP.

X2 on the Place Diverter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O0

A little pricey, but worth it!
Proper impeller cut to engine RPM and HP will increase efficiency!!! As mentioned before, talk to Tom at JBP!!!!! He'll tell you everything you need to know. And a pump blueprint wouldn't be a bad idea either, but they are pretty expensive, and you have to send the entire pump off to be worked on.
Or since you're on the east coast, give Duane at Hi-Tech Performance a call, he's in Missouri, whereas Tom is around San Diego, CA. But, both stand up people to work with, highly recommended.

Good luck.

I put a Hyd. PD on my 21 footer and love it. I mainly got it to help pull me out of the water when I ski (which made a huge difference) but find many other uses for it also ;). (See above mentioned) ;D. The only way to know how it is going to work on your set up is to put it on. Not that difficult. BTW, Tom is in Central CA near Paso Robles not San Diego sorry RealHawaiianJet ;)

I had a place diverter on a 26' excell marine day cruiser w/460, Berkeley pump with a ride plate, picked up 5mph! added a wedge, and had a roostertail almost 20' high! a beutiful sight at sunset!!!!

Nice to see some new people posting and hanging out here WELCOME! My boat is 23.5 ft. and it makes a huge difference in adjusting the ride/speed for changing water conditions. Like someone else said I couldn't imagine not having one. Mine is electric and moves too slow to surprise any lake lice but a manual one might solve that problem nicely. Place mfg. is the only way to go. Legal Chem that roost rocks!

What are you running for power? It ain't a 455 I'm guessing...
-
Goooood lord nooooo!
It's a warmed over 460.
The 750 carb is gone now in favor of an 850 and we'll be installing
long bolt logs this Thursday.
-
LC with a roost like yours I don't suppose the jet ski's try jumping your wake ;D
Around here they like to buzz the back of the boat like dickheads. I can just guess
how much fun it would be to wait till there just about there and raise the roost ::)
You guys have me convinced to go ahead and put one on at the end of the season. I have a 3rd engine on the stand to build over the winter and will probably give it a bit more cam. This motor has a comp cams 278 marine now, I may go up another peg for the next one.
I have the pistons here so all I need is bearings and rods. I won't use stock rods or pistons, I've seen some ugly things out of them ???
The aluminum heads really brought the engine to life along with the rpm air gap intake. I'll just build a short block so I don't know if I'll put it in or not for the start of next summer. The impeller, place diverter and short block should give me something to do till spring makes a come back.
What kind of RPM's are you guys pulling from your 460's? I've seen 5200 once but usually only get to 5-5100 on a half mile banzi run. The old motor ran out of smoke around 4650 rpms, with stock heads and pistons. This is with an A impeller and 23.5 feet of boat.
