fwd/rev control ?

Yesterday when I changed my forward/reverse control's cable I found that the control itself has some weird slop in it. The control moves in and out a 1/2" from it's gunnel mount (green arrow in pic). I found a aluminum nut that took care of the slop (blue arrow) and it works great now but it "ain't right". I'm guessing it's missing a part or something? Idea's?

mine has an aluminum spacer in there that is held in place by a little nipple like thing so it does not move with the lever, i will try to get you a pic this evening if it is still needed

Rod , maybe someone in the past cut the mounting piece to move the lever away from the side of the boat. It looks like you wouldnt have much clearance to the dash in the forward position without the spacer. :-\    On mine the mounting piece is 1 1/2" deep.

Hmmm , I just looked at the Daytona and it has a spacer between the mounting piece and the hull .  Looks like the hull was not deep enough there to fit it all inside, maybe thats the reason for your spacer ?

I just removed one of those from my flatty. It was used to shift the tranny, I'm putting in a little B&M shifter so I've got this thing sitting here. This one just has a round shaft so I guess you could put it anywhere as far as width goes.

There should be a wavy spring in there as well for tension.

Seems like there are a couple of those wavy spring steel washers/spacers.

Thanks for the reply's. Mine is real similar to Propless's. Here's a pic.  :o

 ;D  It doesn't have any wavy washers/spacers, and the mounting piece is 1 1/2" think also. Thanks HD, I'll pick through your parts.  >:D  As of right now it works really well and if you didn't know there wasn't supposed to be a nut on it there you'd say it was right. The nut fit so well that I thought about grinding, filing, and sanding it smooth but I'm too lazy for that. I"m guessing that the set up of the spacer and where the spacer would go in the assembly would depend on the rigger and the hull. Thanks!

Oh yea, in the pic where it is almost hitting the dash, that's the new position for forward. It used to stick straight up in the air jamming the driver in the left calf (yes you sit that high in the boat) so I adjusted it to where it is now. I gained quite a bit of room by doing that. This boat is so comfortable now for me to sit on, woops I mean sit in. Way better than it was before. Here's a pic shot straight from the side that shows how far the control sticks up now.

 WTF !!!  I know you didnt drive all the way up here to take a pic of your parts on my counter.  Your getting good at messing with pics Rod.  I'm going to have to check all you pics more carefully from now on  :sly: .
