Hi guys, while my engine and drive were out of the boat (still are) I decided to switch bellhousings from the Chevy truck clutch bellhousing I had, to an Indmar marine 3 point. First it turns out that the bell-housing won't fit with my heavy 33# flywheel, so I think no problem and swap it out with a flex-plate.
Bell-housing fits fine but the adapter bolts push through the crank flange and are stopped by the block before the flex-plate is seated.
My first thought was that I had the wrong bolts, that I needed shorter - but upon investigation I see they are all the same length.
So I figure the difference must be in the adapter itself, that due to the thickness difference between the flywheel and the flex-plate the adapter for flex-plate must be thicker?
I really don't want to order a new one but it looks like the difference in thickness is probably 0.32". Summit sells a set of 5 flex-plate shims that together add up to 0.32" (coincidence?). My plan is to use these 5 shims between the adapter and the flex-plate to put my driveline back in the correct position.
Can anyone see any problem with the above reasoning before I go and do something dumb?

Followup: My calculations and assumptions were indeed correct, it works like it should.

*I*personally wouldnt run shims. Get the right length bolts with your PTO that is the right PTO, theres one for a flexplate and one for a flywheel...

Yes, in a more perfect world I wouldn't run shims either. BUT, those adapters are for standard H bar drivelines - mine connects to a double cardon joint instead. Like everything else on the old girl, not standard or no longer in production...
