Title: Pump confusion
Post by: Howardgaebel on September 23, 2020, 06:21:11 PM
Hey guys just a couple questions, I bought this boat with the pump that’s in it took it out RE sealed the leaking intake painted it and put new bushings in it Ect . The pump functions like it should no vibrations anything like that , but I get minamal travel on the diverter in the back end am I using the wrong piece is there somthing I’m missing boat won’t shoot a rooster . Also was thinking about dumping some money in the pump this winter anyone have a set up they recommend? I’ve seen these pumps with extension housings on here all kinds of different things. The boat isn’t a race boat just a weekend fun haver ! Any help is appriciated I feel like the pump is missing a peice to allow the diverter to travel .

Looks like all the parts are there.
Take a look at how the cable is adjusted, and get all the "up" you can get. You don't really need that much down travel.

As far as pump set up, depends on the hp you are running. Keeping the wear ring tolerances correct is usually an improvement.

Thanks dan my cables are definitely worn I’ll get some new ones and get them adjusted pump doesn’t have any play in it and the wear rings didn’t look bad when I had it apart !

"Didn't look bad" and measuring are two different things.
Radial (axial) .012"
Thrust (fore to aft) .010"
Condition of the leading edge of the impeller makes a difference. As well as the trailing edge, and vanes on the bowl.

I was amazed when M.P.D. detailed my impeller.

Dan sounds like I’ve got a lot of learning to do when I tore the pump down and went though it I polished the inside of the bowl made sure there wasn’t play in the shaft knocked any burs off I could find and put it back together sounds like I didn’t make a smart choice I’m not having problems yet but when it comes time for a split bowl and droop snoot along with a pump rebuild I’ll defiantly need help. As far as the cable goes you were right I was out of adjustment by about an 1” from what I thought was all the way up. So that’s an easy fix just going to get the cable .
