Title: Pump packing

I need to replace the packing rings in my pump. Is it recommended to use the factory style strips, or would the graphite type rope packing work?
Haven't found much in the way of a spec. on it, is it 1/4, 5/16?

i just bought mine from ebay, they are the graphite ones

I just did mine, talked to Greg at GS marine. He uses the graphite packing.  He made it sounds like the performance of the packing is equal to the old steel packing.
