Need help identifying
« on: May 06, 2015, 07:17:38 PM »
I'm thinking about buying this 1978 Hawaiian. I went and took a look at it but was in a hurry.
Can someone tell me what jacuzzi drive im look at? And what I should know about it? I'm told everything on this boat was restored/rebuilt except the drive because it "simply didn't need it". Pictures are attached

That is a Jacuzzi YJ.  I'm not a fan, but if the price is right?

Even if you wanted to change it out for a Berk you'd be looking at a lot of glass work because the intake is much wider than the Berk.

One of the members here has a Dominator style YJ energizer pump for sale. That pump will bolt right on without doing all of the glass work for a Berkley swap. He is asking $750 complete with nozzle. Pm me if you want his contact info.

The YJ is not a desirable pump in any way. If you want performance you'll need an energizer kit or to modify the hull for another pump.

I think the price is pretty reasonable. 7k for the whole package. No more than 5 hours on the rebuilt 455 (I'm told). New gel coat, seats, carpet. What's the benefits of the dominator? Over the YJ? Or suck it up this year and go Berkeley over next winter?

That's a $3500-$4000 boat all day long.

I would have to agree with the $4000 range for that one.  If you have $7 to spend you need to be looking for a more desirable hull/engine/pump combo.  Even if you have to find something from the south and have it delivered to you.

If you do start looking out of your area, post up questions, you might find someone local to the boat willing to inspect it for you.

Thanks for the tips guys... I will look around. My area doesn't really see these boats. Ever. My uncle has a similar boat with the Berkeley set up. I have a feeling the motor doesn't have much longer the way his son treats it so I may have a hook up. The glass work is really all that annoys me
