Jaccuzzi Wj Pump/Impeller help
« on: July 26, 2011, 05:43:58 PM »
Running a 74 18' challanger with built 455 and was pretty dissapointed after my first run this weekend. The motor runs great and strong at all rpms but boat dosnt really get moving till im almost 3/4 throttle and higher. Dosnt seem to be slipping but more like the thing is in first gear when it should be in 2nd or 3rd(i know they dont have gearbox just for comparison lol). I only was hitting 60ish on gps at almost wide open throttle on a 400hp motor. Im new to jet boats and finding out jaccuzzis arent the most fav pumps but was woundering if an impeller change, any kind of machine work, or if and energizer kit would be my best bet. I also want to add a place diverter but would like to wait to see if any kind of bowl swap might hlep me out first. I have tech know how and access to full machine shop. Thanks again for the input everyone, Josh

Sounds pretty decent/typical for the hp your running
My 19' Glenco ran (a best) 71.8 w475-500 hp range, at the river.
Impeller may need to be cleaned up, and a new wear ring.
A WJ is pretty decent pump, the $ for an energizer kit is better spent on/in the motor (after a diverter) my $.02

What rpm were you running at wot?

Hi Stoolie, with out seeing the condition of the  leeding edge of the Impeller and checking the clearences, it would be hard to determine wheather the brand of pump is culprit, or the the state of repair of your pump is the culprit. And as to changing componets out as a band-aid fix I think you could find a complete Brekley Rebuilt and have it installed for less than the Energizer Kit you mentioned. And then you options to up grade with performance parts would only limited to your budget.

Yeah im going to be pulling the pump soon for inspection, what are some thoughts on upgraded loader grates/scoops for the bottom? Would they help out at all with mid range/Top end speed at all?

Stoolie,
Before young dumping money in to parts that may not make a difference have the pump checked out first. If the pump is a turd no use buying a bunch of shit that wont make a difference. Call Tom at JBP or Jim Brock at Cyclone.  They will help you out. Good luck.

I spoke with tom the other day I belive, the whole jets coming off this winter to paint the hull so may just send him the unit to inspect/repair. The rest of the boat was pretty trashed befor I got my hands on it so wouldnt be suprised if jet could use some work.
