Title: Rock grate?

So I'm still learning the ins and outs, a friend told me I've got a rock grate, that's my pick up for the pump?!?!? First, is that true? Second, is it true you can gain speed by replacing that with what's called a stuffer grate?? Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated...

Yes and it's called a loader grate and yes.

I have my stock grate still on but added a shoe/plate/inducer and better flowing bowl.
